Male Mice stink more than any other small mammal. It's unbearable. Try a female chinese dwarf hamster. Same effect with virtually no smell.

I'm familiar with goats. My uncle used to keep them. Notice I say, "used to." Smile

I did a lovely close-up rendition of 'cups and hamsters' for a SHORT while. The little rat loved to BITE when I did the final hamster load.
Wonder is very necessary in life. When we're little kids, we're filled with wonder for the world - it's fascinating and miraculous. A lot of people lose that. They become cynical and jaded, especially in modern day society. Magic renews that wonder.

And, how should we have introduced this part of the show?

Now for the Rodent Routine!

...And now for the routine I call "Watch Me Wince", often lovingly referred to as the "Amazing Flying Hamster Trick"!

[Just fyi: Now before the animal lovers out there floss the McNuggets from their teeth and set up camp on my lawn, just know that I would never toss the hamster! Y'all know that I have been a vegetarian forever. Love those critters! Even the 'nibbly' ones.]

Don't worry, Autumn. Rodents seem to handle flight well. Here's a pic from the "Mice in Space" program....

I used to use one in a chick pan! I had a Teddy Bear Hamster named "Fidget", and I found a cartoon version of him online...I printed it out and introduced the hamster to the crowd: "He's feeling a little flat lately"...blah blah blah...dropped the paper in the pan and had somebody blow on it, but the gush of air always caused it to blow out...SO...I put the lid on to "keep him from blowing out," then have them blow again...pop the lid off and POOF, there was fat Fidget filling up the ENTIRE pan! Smile

I petted and held mine a LOT...it was really tame and never nipped at anyone...everyone seemed to love him!

I had a hamster in my show for a few months. One time, I was reaching into my Square Circle to pull him out. He grasped my finger like a bull dog with his teeth. I was in shock, swinging my hand up and down rapidly until he let go. I was bleeding badly. At least, it got a good laugh out the crowd.

I've got a syrian hamster, he's about a year old, which means that he is a lot calmer than when he was younger (running around like crazy).
I'm going to attempt using a change bag (perhaps with some flash paper) with a picture of a hamster for a kids show... I will let you know how that goes.

... the only thing that I'm concerned with is that I don't want to stress the little guy out... keeping him in a small cage while I travel to/from the show.
