I've been wanting to do a coins to glass routine. I used to practice one but every time I would practice the coins would break the glass. I've heard of a certain material of cup that is clear, sounds like glass, and is perhaps a sort of plastic. I forget the name of the material or style of cup. Anyone know what I'm looking for? Thanks!

This may help:
http://tinyurl.com/yghmv5x The one I use looks like the Highball Glass on this page but is real glass, thick walled and has a recessed bottom. Impromptu I've used whatever is available, even opaque cups. 'Traveling Centavos' from Bobo is nice. |

Depending on your routine - if also doing card magic and portability is an issue, go with the Libby's Juice glass that also holds a deck. Some tricks where you hide a coin are easier with an "old fashioned" or double shot - and others are easier with stemmed glassware. The big trick is to make sure you can carry the props safely and also not go shattering the glass when coins hit wrong.
...to all the coins I've dropped here

I don't know if it helps you, but I bought some drinking glasses from Target that are super thick. It would be really hard to break these things short of dropping them. I'll try and track down the name or a link to them.

I use a double shot glass, or my Okito Box (Mystery Box Routine).

Like several of us, I also broke a lot of fine crystal glasses when trying and keep a certain class to the effect.
John Carney's take on the effect reduces this drawback. Could it be that the performer's style has to match the sturdiness of the glass. If we want to use fine glasses, we have to select moves that reduce the risk of breaking them. If we want to be able to do some casual deliberate tossing into the glass, let's go for the illusion and forget about the class. In this instancce, it's hard to get the best of both worlds.

The routine I'm doing is David Stone's. At the lecture I saw him do the trick at he used a shorter glass that you might see someone drink bourbon out of.
