I just rented the movie called "Dummy". About a guy that meets a job counselor and follows his dream of performing in on the comedy club circuit --much to the chagrin of his family, but to the pleasure of this job counselor (whom, I believe he falls for).
I have not yet watched it, but bet is is pretty "hokey", but fun for us vents to watch and likely (some of us) to identify with. Jonathan

The movie "Dummy" is really very good. Sure, I'm a ventriloquist so I'm biased, but it's definitely an enjoyable film. Lots of good extras on the DVD too. The people who made the film were smart enough to use a professional consultant on the ventriloquism and Adrien Brody actually bothered to learn the skill for the film. The consultant, Alan Semok, also made the nice figure used in the film. Watch it, you'll love it.

Well-filmed movie. And Adrien Brody (whom I've never seen before) did such a nice job venting and playing his nebbish/geeky, and oh-so dejected character. Hi slove interest, was also very "sweet" and believable. Master figure-maker, Alan Semok, played the Professor is a a fun classroom sequence with aspiring vents, and the Bonus section shows Jeff Dunham in an over the top vent-teacher's role (he goes ballistic --a bit too much, but still very funny). In the credits, if you look carefully, you will see that Paul Winchell is Tech Advisor and Assistant Tech Advisor is listed as being Jerry Mahoney.
Why Brody bought his figure in a Costume shop and not a Magic sho (as suggested in the dialogue f the film) was a bit incongruent. But would likely seem logical to the lay audience. All in all for vents fun film to watch. The premise of a young man with social deficits due to growing up in a highly dysfunctional family and how he uses his ventriloquism to compensate was certainly believable. But the storyline seemed weak and the depth of the film's characters not very strong --though deeper than surface level. On a side note, I found out on some Hollywood movie site), that as a child, Brody performed magic shows at children's birthday parties as "The Amazing Adrien". Definitely worth renting this movie if you have not already seen it (circa 2001). Jonathan

PS: Nice clip form one of Edgar Bergen's great films, where he and Charlie are working a state fair. Charlie is dressed-up as a fortune teller and comments as he witnesses Edgar is falling in love.
All in all, this film, "Dummy" was great fun to watch. The Bonus section includes a pretty hilarious set of commentaries by Jeff Dunham and his two star side-kicks Walter and Peanuts, who analyze the "entire!" film... almost frame-by-frame.

I watched the entire movie a 2nd time via the Bonus section where Jeff Dunham, Walter and Peanut provide running commentary from start to finish. Very witty, funny and boy is Jeff ever skilled at venting and creating the illusion of 2 distinct characters talking simultaneously.
What an unexpected treat! Jonathan
