I'd be interested in hearing from some of the rest of you: what routines and effects stood out to you from the set? My personal favorites:
- Incredible Slate Routine - Teleprognos - Zarkamorta II - Spirit Slates - The £75,000 Test These were just a few that stood out to me. Anyone else? Rick

My favourites are the interviews/discussions. That's what, imho most of what these DVDs are all about. But by all means, there also are a lot of great effects here, and Richard has done a wonderful job in moving some of them about 50 years foreward, to make them more practical in our time. Sven

Maybe I'm too old fashioned. I prefer the book.

For me it is Great Minds Think Alike. I added it to my show, and it is the culmination of three effects where I test the same spectator. Can he receive a thought from me? Can he send a thought to me? Can he send a thought to a stranger (Great Minds Think Alike).

Great minds think alike was / is great. I also liked very very much the whole step of predictions.

So out of 3 DVDs only three or four effects are very good?

I'd have to say the Sujan Location, as it makes for a great Dead or Alive effect...

Joaquin, I think you might have jumped to the wrong conclusion. There are many effects that may be notable but there is a tendency not to be redundant in the post while attempting to highlight the best effects. What is needed is a broader sample size.

Joaquin, it's not that only 3 or 4 were great...there were many great pieces on the DVDs. It's just that for each of us, there are always effects that jump out and sorta "speak" to us. Every piece in my show is one of those that I either read or saw that just "spoke" to me.
Anyone else?

I fear that a few (OK...one) have completely missed the point of this DVD set. It was never created to supplant the book in any way. It exists, rather, as an adjunct to the book, highlighting several effects in each step and hinting at the multitudes of riches that still lie buried in its pages.
In fact, Richard spends a great deal of his time on the discs encouraging viewers to get the book and dig deeper. Of course, one would only know that by actually viewing the DVDs before criticizing (a provincial notion, I know) but why let facts get in the way of pseudo-condescension? |

I hear there is going to be a gathering of such folks next year at a new convention called Pseudo-Con. The internet may go silent during those 3 days.

I'm only at disc 4, but so far my fave has GOT to be the improptu challenge given by one of the audience members. To those who haven't seen, an audience member came to Richard during the break expressing skepticism in his manner of revealing his written predictions, suspecting a sw**i. His way of handling it, the revelation, and her reaction! Wow... what a knockout!!

I agree, this seems to happen quite often in this forum - people not understanding or responding to the original post. Thanks Domino Magic for pointing it out and getting this back on track. Now if you could only do it for all of the other areas of this community... |
