Let's just say .. the Friday evening show had an act that had absolutely NO business being on stage .. it was that bad. Many thought it was some sort of joke .. but, it wasn't.
It really brought the whole show down .. Steve |

I saw that on your FB page...man...that is sad to hear. It looks like it's snowing, and if I know Danny Garcia, he is holding court in the lobby. Wish I was there, but I don't miss the cold!

Going along with what Chezaday said that was bad, really bad. It really marred the show a great deal.
Another very low point for me was Daniel Garcia, I guess cussing and dropping F-bombs is cool where he is from...but it did not fly here. People were leaving the room that I was in but it did not seem to bother him. This is the worse Magifest in a long time. I would much rather see real workers performing than these supposed cutting edge acts. |

Someone definitely dropped the ball this time around .. I too, was very disappointed in this years lineup.
I doubt I'll be returning next year ... Steve |

I gave up on them many years ago when I kept getting the excuse of rotating dealers after I had supported them for 25 years and Marshall for over 50 (from the beginning). It's too bad. This was one of my first conventions and I considered it my "home" convention for many years.
The talent level as been steadily dropping for years. Things change when you are not the only game in town. Richard

I agree whole heartedly with Richard. It seems it has become quite 'political' from others who have emailed me. Making it an 'exclusive' convention for a few dealers and not allowing new ones to come in will come back to haunt them. Conventions have to offer not only top notch entertainment but give the registrants good value for their money. There are too many conventions and options these days. Folks will only want to go where they get the biggest bang for their buck.

Well, I am sure that this post has me banned forever from MagiFest. So be it. I only spoke the truth. Don't tell me you are rotating dealers and forget to include dealers who have been there since the beginning, I have no axe grind with other dealers, most are my friends. But do not tell me something is happening and it is not.

You being an Ohio dealer, with quality products, I would think that you'd be asked to participate at this convention more often. They have a lot of the same dealers year after year, to the point that it has become ridiculous! Same people every year selling the same stuff. As it was also mentioned, the talent has gone downhill for quite some time over the years. It's sad because this was at one time a great convention. Let's just hope others express their displeasure to "The Powers That Be", and things turn around. |

Actually, I am a new dealer at magi fest as were several others this year. A procedure I have noticed for the last several years... As to talent, I was not particularly disappointed at all... I had a very good time as did the laymen I invited to the Friday night show in question... But maybe that was just me...

Anyone have the contest results? I heard that Joseph Young tied for first in the stage competition, and Andrew Martin was third, but I haven't heard anything else.
I saw Dan Harlan in some pictures - I would have loved to have seen him. I hear next year that Frewin, Merrill and some others are already booked.

I love the magi-fest and haven't missed one since I started going about 20 years ago. That said, this was probably the worst I've seen. A few bad/mediocre stage acts really brought the whole event down. Arthur Trace was certainly a highlight and was very well received. Personally, I liked Danny Garcia and Eric Jones a lot, although opinions of Garcia's humor seemed to vary, especially among the older crowd. Jon Allen's humor certainly pushed things, which was fine by me, but he didn't suit the taste of some. Terry Ward was great. Dan Harlan's midnight lecture was brilliantly delivered and a lot of fun too. Geoff William's lecture was also a highlight.
Don't even get me started on the dealers room. I'll just be nice and say that I've never come back from a convention with so much money. No one else I know bought much either! The good news is that the convention is downtown next year in a new hotel (thank God) that I hear is VERY nice. Jep told me there will be more dealer space and we will be much closer to the theater. I have faith that its going to be great - I'm already registered and looking forward to it! |

Who was the magician that was a little under the influence at the big headliner show? I didn't see the show but I heard stories.

By moving the hotel downtown, it sounds like the old days when we used to have the shows at the Masonic Auditorium. I never like Memorial Hall. It is like a huge cavern. I can only imagine trying to work that stage.
