If you're just beginning, I have to concur regarding the Osterlind set since it does contain some of the basic, classics of mentalism. However, (and I know that this isn't answering the question) I would very strongly suggest that you still get a copy of Practical Mental Effects, as well as 13 Steps to Mentalism.
You mentioned you are a visual learner; so am I. I have what is commonly referred to as a 'learning disability': ADD. I have spent countless hours pouring through wordy magic books in my past, only to come away more confused because I wasn't able to clearly understand the point the author was trying to make. Happily, this is not so with either of these books. Both Corinda and Annemann are wonderful writers who get straight to the point and don't mince words. I have several effects I now perform from both books, and only because I made a conscious effort to go through them, taking my time to find the effects that I wanted to try. Because their writings are very concise, you won't have a problem 'imagining' the effect as you read it. Just a suggestion. Rick
