Dear magician's,
for a specific trick I have to perform, I'm searching for a a lock that you can open from a distance. The trick will be that someone shows a number (which is randomly chosen), and when he tries to open the lock with this combination, it opens. When he tries any other combination, the lock won't open. The only thing that I found here was Luvr's lock, but I'm not sure if that's what I'm looking for. Would love to hear from you! Greetz, VMids |

I simply suggested the routine and lock from Glemme. It beats the hell out of anything else I've used.

I had suggested "The Code" which is a less than 'packs light' option, but accomplishes what was requested.

Dear magician's,
thanks for all the nice comments and pm's. I'm relatively new here (was reading over your shoulders for some time) but it's amazing how fast and kind I'm helped. I Just ordered Dream Lock at magictricks.com. I hope the secret isn't to obvious, since the trick is for national television. If it doesn't get the job done, I will try another possibility! I will let you know... greetz, Vmids |

Vmids,
I fear that "Dream Lock" may not be what you are looking for if what you want is a lock that opens by 'remote contol.' While "Dream Lock" is opened by an audience member in their hands (there are several locks that will do so), unless I am mistaken it does not open by 'remote control.' I do recall seeing an ad for a padlock that DID open by remote control a few months ago and will see if I can find it again. As I recall, in the ad it is pictured lying on a tray or small platform (black surface with wood trim). I suspect it relies on electronics and, as I recall, was a rather costly item. Someone who sees this post may remember it as well. I'll keep looking and if I can find the ad again will post the info.

Sorry for bringing this up again...
But is there a useful Remote Control Lock on the market, that looks like a regular padlock or not? I was looking for one a few years ago, but I couldn't find anything apropriate! Thanks for your help!

Neither the one posted by Ustaad or Redford are the one I remember seeing. The one Ustaad refers to doesn't look like a regular padlock, but looks like just what it is -- a remote controlled padlock. Not very magical. The one in the YouTube Redford mentioned doesn't seem to be any different than Dream Lock, Luvrs Lock or other similar one that have been available since the 1980s-90s.
I'll keep searching for the one I remember and if/when I find it will post the info.

Dick, here is the link to the padlock you say ( Solari's Sipirit lock )
http://www.gmrcreations.com/bob/52-150.htm and you can see the video here: http://www.showtheatre.com/magic/file.php?id=208 but, as you say, it is not "remote", you must use a tray and manipulate it, not very clean, for me. |
