When the holidays come around I start craving fruitcake. My dear father has one sent to me from the Collin Street Bakery every year...but it hasn't arrived so far, and I'm starting to worry. It won't be Christmas without a fruitcake.
Now, I realize that fruitcakes are a joke to some--made for doorstops and all that--but I *love* fruitcake. Howzabout the rest of ya? |

Never had a fruitcake...but that's ok.
Because the Swiss Colony Beef Log is where it's at. Christmas isn't Christmas without a Swiss Colony Beef Log. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c0dpQlKdJgY

I love fruitcake and I've never understood all anti-fruitcake humour. Yummm.

South Africans and Brandy. A lot of it in fruit cake. So much that there is an age limit on eating it. I found someone who makes them here in Taiwan and ordered immediately. 30 US for a cake but it will be worth it.

The Anti-Fruitcake lobby has effectively killed it's availability at normal locations. One needs to go to the internet these days around here anyway.

I've never liked fruitcake. Always been my least favorite Christmas treat.
On the other hand - strangely enough - when my aunt was alive, she would always send us Bourbon Balls for Christmas. They were a dark chocolate shell surrounding a soft, white interior. They tasted exactly like Bourbon. She (and both of my parents were from Kentucky, where Bourbon is big). I actually liked them, even as a kid. Very strong flavor.
My ex-cat was named "Muffin". "Vomit" would be a better name for her. AKA "The Evil Ball of Fur".

I had ONE brand of fruitcake I liked (name brand forgotten). It was light-colored, lightly-spiced and MOIST.
Most fruitcakes I've encountered are bitter and hard as styrofoam. Moot point now, as I am diabetic and can't have fruitcake anymore, anyway.

Can't stand fruitcake, but my wife loves fruitcake.
Fortunately we agree on everything else in our lives 100%. "What's that honey?" "Of course, you're right dear." "Make that 75% of everything else." "Sorry, what was that love?" "Right, make it......." From the extremely happily married man and his most loving and understanding wife may you have all the fruitcake you desire this Christmas. Give me your address and I'll mail you mine. |

My local Safeway has tons of fruitcake on the shelf.
But the best commercially produced / store bought fruitcake I know of is Claxton's. http://www.claxtonfruitcake.com/index.php

My grandmother made the best fruitcake. About 10 years ago, when her health started failing, I took over the annual rite of making the family fruitcakes and sending them out at Christmastime. She died last year so this is my way of keeping a little part of her memory alive.

Ok, enough is enough, do any of you have any published peer reviewed scientific studies to back up these claims about fruitcake? I thought so!
Our friends don't have to agree with me about everything and some that I hold very dear don't have to agree about anything, except where we are going to meet them for dinner.

Fruitcakes are behind global warming, the recession, over fishing, halitosis and male patterned baldness. I say we find out where they nest and crush their eggs!!!!

I was just thinking about this subject the other day. I can't understand why anybody wouldn't like it. Pecans and those cherries they put in sundays? What's not to like?
Then again, some folks don't like eggnog either. I just don't get it.
