Richard I received the 13 Steps video for Christmas!! I have not gotten through everything yet. I just watched the DVD with the billet knife. I am now on the search for a great one...I am very excited to learn more about billet pens, pencils, knives and other items. Thank you for making the DVD. Call it lazy...but I am someone who wants to see the material performed...not just read it.
Thanks again. |

It also leaves room for others to come along and make something else and improve on past engineering. So goes the circle of life. I am excited for the future of magic. Reintroducing classic effects and classic principles set the stage. The building blocks for a new generation. When I say new. I do not mean just the young. There is such great engineering out there...when the right person(s) are introduced to magic...there will be more great ideas brought forth. I am looking forward to it, as well as one day helping to add to it. |

Are the knives used in signed dollar to lemon or other fruits the same type of knives?
http://www.tannens.com/shop/cart.php?m=p......1&p=7869 This one seems to not actually be a billet knife..but a way to get the billet in there with the use of just about any knife. http://www.tannens.com/shop/cart.php?m=product_detail&p=6606 Do these bill to lemone knives work like the $200. knives? |

Have a look over at http://www.thaumaturgy.co.uk
We've just spent the past few months painstakingly engineering and constructing The Billet Pencil. They have turned out beautifully! I'm relieved its finally got to this stage, its been hard...but so worth it!

I use the porper knife (jaks style) and have no problem with it at all. The switch between knifes is so simple and done right under the spectator's noise, so you end very clean.
P.S. Thaumaturge, your billet pencil looks fantastic. Well done |

The edge loading means they are not capable of cutting anything other than paper. I much prefer the very plain simple Jaks knife. It is so innocuous it really is hidden in plain sight. No one would suspect it.

I have one of the German knives that has the blade that is about 1 1/8" wide, chrome plated, with a leatherette handle. The blade is about 6 inches long. No instructions, but the M.O. is fairly easy to suss out.

Bill,
Just curious... It's the one from the Zauberzentral Munchen? I have one of those from them and it fits your description.

Bill,
if you ever change your mind in selling only to US, but expand to Canada I might be interested. |

I've used a billet knife / pencil since I was in high school. I started with a Corinda pencil (which I still have) and have used the Jaks style, an ungimmicked butter knife and now use the German dagger. They ALL work great.
I believe that the key to success in using a billet knife has nothing to do with the knife. Nor has it made a shred of difference that the note was folded small in an envelope, or that the envelope was a pay style or letter shape. All the presentation is about the INFORMATION that happens to be written on a note sealed in an envelope. With the right mind set or "silent script", the prediction could be on a crumpled piece of paper held by the spectator. It's all about the INFORMATION, not where it is or what it's written on. And not even remotely about the tool used to open the envelope. The knife / pencil is in play for about 5 seconds! It's totally invisible to the audience. It's less noticeable than what kind of drinking glass was used in the overdose scene in Pulp Fiction. What glass? Right? A fancy letter opener can be as invisible as a pencil used impromptu. It makes absolute sense to methodically fold the note into a tiny package and seal it in an envelope - so nobody can see it. Just like a regular person might do. The note is quickly unfolded by the participant. By the time the information is read, the envelope is gone, the folds are gone and the knife... what knife? The mentalist and his predictive information is the focus, not the props, even the envelope. Many of my friends on this thread already know all this, so forgive me, mates. I know at least David, Richard and Bob have all successfully fooled the socks off people by PRETENDING to remove a written prediction from an envelope, ala The Swami Test. And there it is. ;-) |

Docc, my sentiments exactly! I recently released an updated Billet Pencil and received many questions regarding the suspicions of a small folded prediction.
I gave almost the exact same advice you have just given... that the audience is focusing on the information, and provided the presentation is there and the Billet Pencil plays an inconsequential part, all the audience remember is the information. However, producing a knife within a routine in certain situations would been deemed suspicious (and possibly raise a few Policemen's eye brows)...but not a plain old pencil

This may be one of the knives from ZZM.
Gilbert: If you live near the border and have a friend in the States where I can send it, I will gladly send it there. There are too many problems with Canadian Customs for me to tolerate. The last item I sent to Canada took three weeks to get there via first class mail. That's not good at all.
