Quote: Yes, but Tom- that was the point. Rush stated that the poorest people in the USA are better off than the mid-level families in Europe. It's clearly not the case. In fact, it's such an outrageous piece of misinformation that there's no way the numbers will support the facts. Even you had to qualify the statement to make the numbers fit.On 2009-12-15 12:37, Tom Bartlett wrote:

So yes, the Americans have lots more stuff than the Germans. Heck, my sister has seven TVs, and her kids are grown and out on their own. Of course, you can insist that she isn't typical. Stone, yep; if the Germans took on the amount of debt that the average American has, they, too, could live fat and happy. But Germans don't need big refrigerators- they serve their beer at cellar temperature, right? Our beer tastes so bad we need to serve it ice cold from the fridge to numb our taste buds.

True enough. If I were to keep my beer in the fridge instead of my cellar, I would definitely need a bigger refrigerator. Heck, I might even need two!

Wow. All this time I thought that the only people who listened to Rush Limbaugh were the Daily Show writers. I can't think of any other use for his rhetoric than as a source for comedy material.

I am not going to defend Rush except to say that we SHOULD put him in the same context of John Stewart as mentioned above. An ENTERTAINER really. And of the two, Stewart is far funnier really. By a LONG margin. (and on purpose!)
I do find it funny that those who want every single word of emails read and in context and printed, are willing to use sentences from Rush to bash him. Little bit of hypocricy to say the least. Rush has tremendous success as a RADIO PERSONALITY, and it is hard to argue he spawned an entire genra of rebirth in that deal. For this he gets credit. As for political whatever, well Obama won now didn't he? (Mind you I am NOT an Obama fan but things are what they are) I hope this does not get dragged down into a "Rush said..." discussion, as it is pointless. The man has no power at all. The people meeting at the summit however DO have power and a lot of it. What they say and do will have more impact on our lives than Rush ever will.

I can't wait for Kevin Trudeau's "The H1N1 cure THEY don't want you to know about!"
Oh, the infomercial will be so entertaining: "I was ordered by the court to recall my product based upon false claims, which PROVES that it works!" I twiddle in anticipation.

Why would anyone believe that HIV doesn't cause AIDS? I don't get it.
Fun trivia: HIV comes from monkeys. H1N1, H1N2, and H1N3 come from pigs. H5N1 comes from birds. If you are allergic to bees (as I am) then they are all killer bees. (Well, at least the ones that you are allegic to.) Hmm, killer bees rhymes with HIV, and they both sort of rhyme with conspiracy... Oh no!

Why do you insist on name calling? Also Wiki is written by the readers right?
As for the "AIDS" thing, yea goofy. There was a reason the government did the vaccine in SINGLE doses and thus had trouble getting them out. It was to cater to the LEFT WING thought process about it causing developmental problems when you used the multi dose preservative. Did you notice how much less of a problem it was once the government biffed getting people the vaccine? Yea no media bias. John, partially I actually did mean you and here is why. From what I can see of Rush's site, it seems as if those things are a single phrase to get you to subscribe so you can hear what he says. Thus if you listen to the whole quote in context then you may perhaps be able to tell me one way or the other what he indeed meant. I think those quotes are there to be INTENTIONALLY provocative, never forget this mans job is to get you to subscribe to his web page right? Again while I have no more intention of defending the man than I do of defending or condenming David Letterman, for the SAME reason, they are entertainers. (And I still maintain John Stewart is funnier than both combined.)

Danny, yes, wikipedia is written by readers, but the source for his stance on HIV/AIDS is a link back to his own website, where he sells materials which deny the connection of the virus and the syndrome.
I'm calling the twerp names because he doesn't deserve my respect. Anti-vaccination and HIV deniers have spread misinformation, and this has directly resulted in the deaths of children from otherwise preventable conditions. Look up Christine Maggiore. Her refusal to take anti-retroviral drugs before giving birth resulted in her passing HIV to her daughter, who died of AIDS-related pneumonia at the age of three.

Tommy, the 2009 outbreak is vastly different than the 1976 scare. For one thing, H1N1a is a confirmed pandemic (meaning it has sustainable human-to-human infection and has spread across the globe.)
We still don't know what exactly happened in Mexico during the first wave of infection, but the second wave has proven to be virulent enough to warrant the widespread vaccinations.
