Atomic Rooster was Keith Emmerson's band prior to ELP.
The confederates were yet another failed name for "The Who" Le Pouse was kind of a cheat. Thye were a french band that was trying to rip off the Beatles, and never really made it at all.

I don't know.... Atomic Rooster and The Confederates were more existing bands that had members depart to start other bands. I looked it up after you mentioned The Who, who were The Detours and had a name change
For those keeping score: Soft White Underbelly became Blue Oyster Cult (they had a member who was Howard Sterns cousin) The Warlocks became The Greatful Dead The Quarrymen had a couple members who left to start The Silver Beatles and then became The Beatles. Tom and Jerry became Simon and Garfunkle I don't know who the others became. Another cool band name is Violent Femms, which was great since their leader was a gospel guy. |

If anyone is interested but doesn't know:
"Rat Salade" was what a certain pioneering guitarist wanted to name his band before their flamboyant frontman suggested the name "Van Halen, because it has more syllables than Roth." Not to be confused with the song "Rat Salad" by Black Sabbath.

At school, there was a band called "Slaughterhouse Punks" (all highschool kids' bands has english names).
I don't know who was the bright mind behind it, but they were a gospel rock band...go figure...

The industrial band Skinny Puppy has a weirdly appropriate name.

For strange names how about "A Flock of Seagulls", or maybe "The Tubes", who by the way I think is a great band.
My older brother was in a band for a while called " Wet Dog". There was another local band called " Somebody's Kids " Bob. |

Anybody remember the one hit wonder
"The Strawberry Alarm Clock" Their one hit "Incense and Peppermints" is a great and classic song. Back in the 70's a friend of mine walked into a record store and asked the clerk if they had any Strawberry Alarm Clock" the clerk asked him to leave the store with the warning not to use foul language in his store.

Grand Funk Railroad was a cool name.
The problem is... The only thing funky about that band was Mel Schacher's afro. |

And they had a very good song: "I'm Your Captain"/(Closer To Home, IMO)
(Not to be too shocked about Mel's hair. Remember, he was recruited from the well- groomed band: "? and the Mysterians"/LOL) |
