Hi,
My question is about receiving deposits through Paypal. Out of the entertainers that offer it, how many of your clients actually use Paypal as a way of sending you the deposit, over the number of clients that still send cheques? Do you have to send the client a Paypal invoice? How many post cash through your door instead? Also, what price is your deposit? Is it one set price for all clients, regardless of the lenth of show, or do you have a set percentage that means it changes depending on how much you are charging a particular client? I currently don't do deposits, but was thinking of starting in 2010, and want to work out the best way of making it easy for the client, and not threatening. Steve |

Hi,
I do offer the option to pay the deposit through paypal or by check. With the increase in last minute events, more and more clients are paying by Paypal. I cover the paypal fee, and send an invoice so they know when to do it and so that they do not need to create a paypal account. I offer choices: 1. Pay in full by Paypal or check in advance 2. Pay 50% deposit by Paypal or check and pay 50% balance the day of the event in CASH ONLY Really a mixture is chosen. All of my clients (even small birthdays) expect to pay a deposit and have a contract. I use this formula for ALL events, although with corporate and schools I am more flexible in working with their protocol because I know they are not disappearing. Being one of the most expensive in my market this has worked very well for me. Alexa |

I don't tell my customers to use Paypal but I could.
I tell them they can send a deposit by check or credit card. I use paypal to process my credit cards.

I always take a deposit. 98% pay via my paypal tag on my web site.
Most actually pay it through paypal but with a debit or credit card. They pay the paypal fee but I tell them they will get it back in sweets and balloons for the kids. I think its the best way to take a deposit. and much better than cheques. Some still send cheques but not many. Also when they pay you can print off in paypal an envelope to send their confirmation and pay for the postage in paypal. Looks really pro when you do this.

I accept deposits through PayPal. I simply tell them, through the initial confirmation email, that a 50% deposit is required before I can put the show on my calendar and that my email address is linked to my account. They can figure out the rest. I also accept checks. I receive the balance on the day of the show.
About 20% send a deposit via PayPal, with about 80% sending a deposit check. When the deposit is received, I send an email telling them that the show is now on my schedule and the deposit has been received. |
