Hello
I am looking to get some Morgans and a shell. Which do you think is better to get from, Mr.Todd or Magic Warehouse. Here is a link to the Magic Warehouse coins, http://themagicwarehouse.com/silver.html Here is the link to Mr. Todd's Coins, http://hometown.aol.com/klarentz/index.html Mr.Todd is a little more expensive but i like the idea of going with him because he knows his coins. Or do you think there will be no difference between the two. Could you please help me. Thank you all, Brad

I brought a Walking Liberty shell from Magic Warehouse, and was completely satisfied. I felt it was a good price, and it served my needs (strolling coins across). I'm not familiar with Mr. Todd's work, but I'm sure it's wonderful, and they seem to be handmade with pride. I guess it comes down to if you are the kind of person who shops at Walmart, or pays a little more at the Mom/Pop shop. As for me, I'm gonna start putting alittle aside to buy one of Mr Todd's "Flippers". Thanks for the link.

I have two words for you..."Todd Lassen!"
I have several of his coins and they are nothing more than a thing of beauty! You are definately going to pay more, but it's worth it in my opinion. Cheers! |

Ok, if I had the cash to do so, I would send Todd Lassen one of my Morgans and have him turn it into a shell. The reason being that my Morgans look similar. They all have the same color and wear, so I would want my shell to look exactly like them.

And, if you don't happen to have coins that match the gaff, Todd will provide a matching set for you. In fact, I think he rather prefers to sell them in sets like this.

Mr.Todd gave me a quote on a set of morgans and a shell. I think when i get the money i will be going with Mr. Todd on this one.
Does anyone here have a set? Is the set you got from Mr.Todd soft? Thanks Brad

Brad, Todd will make the set from coins that are as "soft" or otherwise as you prefer. That's just one of the nice things about having work (of any kind) custom-made just for you. So go ahead, you deserve it, don't you? Talk it over with him, and see what he suggests.

Todds coins are awesome. Only drawback is the wait time. You can have the coins from Magic Warehouse in two or three days verses ???? from Custom Makers.
I ordered some coins from Todd over a month ago, and still waiting. I know it will be worth the wait from my experience with his coins. Good Luck with your purchase |

I see that Todd is the favorite of champions...However, I was wondering if anyone uses the Johnson coins and are they happy with them. I know Todd's are the best, but what about the Johnson coins...good/bad...etc.
I have several Johnson Coins already and would like to get some their have stuff. Thanks for the help. andy |

I waited about two weeks for Todd at most - for a shell set, flipper, c/s - I didn't think it was too long of a wait( and the quality is great!)

Andy,
I consider myself a general "close-up" magician who does some coin work. My Johnson (I'll resist the urge to insert joke here) Expanded shell, Copper, Silver Bronze, and folding Half work wonderfully for me. Of course, if you can afford it, go custom made, this is true for most any kind of product. Nando

Brad, I've gone off on various rants regarding gaffs and all, and they appear in various threads. However the short answer to your question is:
C/S coin (modern, clad Kennedy / EP) made by Sterling Magic years ago. The Johnson one is good, too. Simple 50/50 construction. The version described in Bobo's did not work for me, but maybe I had a bad one. Karate Coin (Morgan) made it myself. Folder: (Kennedy half) Sasco, Johnson, they all do fine. Morgan Flipper: Because I begged, Todd sold me the Morgan flipper he had in his pocket, the one he was performing with. It's now seen quite a bit of use, and I've fiddled with it a bit, but it is a thing of beauty. That's about it. Oh--stack of quarters. Made it myself years ago with a hand drill and a coping saw.

I have Johnson's Morgan expanded shell and I satisfied with it. But it is not "Soft" coin. And they don't have various gaffs. If you want to buy a "Soft" one or will buy other gaffs like Copper Silver Brass or Scotch and Soda, then your choice will be Todd's.

Nando,
Thanks for the help. I appreciate it. I have the Johnson Hopping Half and I like it. It is not with the 1964 Silver Kennedy, but it still works for me. I like using the 1/2 rather than the dollar coins. I have pretty thin fingers (big palms) but hard to conceal larger coins with these tooth pick fingers...lol andy |

I have an expanded Walking Liberty shell from Johnson Prod., part of a Hopping Half set and it's c**p. There is a perceptible crack in the rim and the process flatten the relief on the surface so bad it doesn't match the insert coin or the silver side on the sun/moon coin. Needless to say I don't use it and I probably should had return it. This is hopefully an isolated problem and may not reflect the entire product line.
However, I do own and love the Morgan Hopping "Half" set that Todd made for me. Go for quality and you will not regret it. |

I've got several gaff coins and coin sets from Johnson. They all sit in a drawer now that I have discovered Todd Lassen. I've got quite a few of his coins and they are all the best. The first time I saw his coins, I just stared in awe. I've been using several of his sets for a couple of years now and couldn't me more pleased. I don't use anything but his coins now. Yes, he's a little bit more expensive than others, but way more than worth it. And definitely worth the wait. Get the Lassen coins. Get the Lassen coins. Did I mention that you should get the Lassen coins?
