I remember from when someone saw mathew Dowden in his well received party animal dvd doing a TL in an effect...he kept going saying something like " is that so, let me see", and he turned the TL and continued as usual...and when the spectator saw his signed card coming out from Mathew's wallet he was blown away with disbelieve...
as mentioned above, best way would be to ignore and keep going |

I like to keep my performances quite personal, and as such am not sure ignoring them works best with my persona. I am keen on Ed's response, which brings the spectator into the performance - as long as it doesn't break the flow. If it would break the flow, some of the shorter responses offered above would work well.
I've been overwhelmed with responses - thank you. I also hope this has been useful for others, with varied solutions depending on one's personality.. |

I am not quite sure that is the best way to manage a such situation; I think it is not necessary to ignore the ones who disturb a show because they are a part of the audience! So you have to include them into the routines without to give them the best role on stage!

Here's an interesting story. I took a date to the Magic Castle back in 1995 or 96. I took her there to meet my friend Larry Jennings. Larry did an effect for her called "Always Cut the Cards" from his Classic Magic book. She totally figured it out and called him on it. My mouth hit the floor. He looked over at me, smiled and said, "She's got a smart noodle up there." Classic.

"A conjuror is not a juggler; he is an actor playing the part of a magician, an artist whose fingers have more need to move with deftness than with speed." Often paraphrased as "A magician is an actor playing the part of a magician"

And when you can step out of yourself, know the part you play and first ask or think to yourself what would my character say and how would he act when confronted with these questions?
Then with experience you would not have to ask yourself as your character will have already taken over. As you progress you will even get beyond this stage Ortiz shared good material as have many others about how you structure your presentation so you remove all possible explanations except the one you want your audience to come to. To avoid ever getting these questions, you will lose them with time, practice and experience It's never just a trick, it's always an experience. Never give them just a puzzle to try to solve. If you do you've cheated us all Consider how do I get beyond allowing them to think about how it's done with my presentation Magic and performing are like an onion

Vick - thank you for the thought you have put into your posts to help steer me. I've only been practicing for a few months now, so I have a long exciting journey ahead, and imagine coming back to this post time and again in the future as I progress.
Thanks. |
