Wow - that's a great routine, Lee. Congratulations! Now you've really got me scratching my head about those standard PF cups! Can't wait to see the details of the routine on the website in the New Year.

How many people have won IBM, SAM or FISM with c&b routines? How many of the classic routines (Vernon, Wonder, Ramsay, Johnny Paul, Gazzo) won these titles? I'm asking purely out of curiosity - but suspecting that not many have.

I think you are misreading his post. How I see it he is saying that a good routine will win a contest but an excellent routine that works for a real audience and gets you paid.
No need to get all bunched up about it. As always, Dylan |

Someone asked me personally if the routine actually looked like what you saw on the video; it does! Bill, Lee, another friend, and myself were all sitting in a restaurant having dinner. Lee said that he wanted to show me something that he wanted my opinion on; he then performed this.
As any of us that have been performing magic for a while know: after a bit of time and good deal of knowledge, it's not often that you find a routine that will fool the heck out of you. You may not know the method, but you at least have an idea of how it could have been done. That was not the case here: when the ball vanished, it just freakin' vanished! He even let me examine the cups before and after, and I could not figure it out at all! When he finally told me the method, I was flabbergasted; and I truly do think that, if you get this and learn it, you'll be blown away as well. Lee may be my friend, but this endorsement comes entirely without his asking. He has a fantastic mind for magic and creativity, and I can't wait to see what else he comes up with next. Rick

It was a "paper balls over the head" moment.

Great routine. I thoroughly enjoyed it. Those were some real sneaky loads you had there! One of the best C&B performances I've seen in a long time. A tad long perhaps but for originality, technical virtuosity and a truly entertaining presentation, this merits an A in my books. Fortasse |

I feel the need to explain something The routine, as it is presented in the video, is well longer than any cups and balls routine "should" be. However, this dvd is intended to be dynamic in the sense that many many different options and phases are available for working situations. The idea being, at any moment the performer can utilize another phase to pick and choose what parts they like most in their own routine. So my performance in working settings is never as long as the video shown but may include at any time any of the phases presented in a seemingly impromptu setting. I'm really appreciative of everyone's extremely kind words and posts, I'm rather humbled by them to say the least and thrilled everyone enjoyed it.
Everyones kind input has changed my mind on somethings, I'll be putting the website up Christmas day instead of Jan 1st for the Café' family. Also, anyone interested in the routine from the Café will have a pretty good discount, but that's a fight between me and the publisher :-p I also want to mention that the there is more than the cups routine on this dvd, but I guess all that stuff will make more sense with the website. Again, thanks to everyone that took time to find the video and comment. I hope this new take on the trick will help many people and open new directions to the old classic. Every time I perform this I try to make it better and hopefully others can take it and improve it even further. -Lee |

Lee,
My lovely wife and photographer really liked your routine. In her words, "He let me know when the magic had happened!" She's seen far too much cups and balls magic, yet she thought your routine was superb. This alone means you have a great routine. I'm a evil jaded guy who has read far too many books on the subject. I also thought it was excellent. Above all else you young sir, you have come up with a routine of your very own. I think that makes all the difference. Bravo! KG PS, My wife still likes my routine better. ( Well she told me that anyway) |

Lee,
Thanks for sharing. I like the performance a lot. I can see what you mean by being "modular". Good thinking in that regard. Gotta go back and watch this 8 or 9 more times and see if I can see what I am seeing but not understanding what I am seeing. As rickmagic1 says: a "paper balls over the idiot" moment. What I especially like is the originality of the moves and the sequencing. Great not to be seeing the latest variation of the same ol' moves. Thanks again for sharing. Mike

Here we go again, lots of words going past my ears. The good news is that I was very impressed with this routine. Saw a lot of cool moves that makes me glad that there is something new out there worth seeing. The thumb going into the cup and coming out without the thumb made me laugh, loved watching that.
Thanks DJ for a wonderful show, but hope to see it again with subtitles. |

Please know, I looked into subtitles and on video without real script, the cost is astronomical. I simply could not afford it and publishers can not justify the cost. With that said, I know that is not a good answer. So please let me extend an offer of help, PM me with any questions about the routine and I will gladly walk you through it... no dvd needed. I sincerely hope that helps, even though I recognize that it does not resolve the real problem. -Lee |

The best way to do subtitles is to transcribe the script yourself from the finished product. Then have that applied by whatever process is necessary. An alternative would be to supply a transcription of the script as spoken on the performance.
BTW, since I have seen this more than once, I do understand the improvisional nature of the scripting. However, if you can sit down and write out your script, you would be surprised at how tight you can make the performance. It doesn't have to sound scripted if you use your own way of wording things. It also gives you a chance to spot any anomalies that need to be removed.

I just talked to Keith and anyone else who needs a written explanation... The original product was in written form, but it became a rather cumbersome feat to learn from. So, a dvd would be much easier for the consumer. But if someone requires a written format with it, that will be sent with the DVD upon request. Hope that helps

Really enjoyed this routine, and kudos on the creative final loads. Very smooth and graceful handling, too.
My only minor criticism is that I think it might be a little long for laymen. SETH

It really helped to have the text file open at the bottom of the screen and scroll through it along with the movie. In scenes with a lot of dialog I could pause the movie, read the paragraph and then proceed. The time stamps allowed me to easily keep track and back up to where the dialog began so that I could watch the action once I understood what was being said. I think that this may be a possible solution for those who are deaf or otherwise hearing impared. It's certainly worth a shot.

BTW, I was of the opinion that scripting was completely unnecessary as well as limiting. Then, I did a spot in a Shakespeare production and realized that if I had a series of memorized lines that I could speak expressively without sounding like I was wearing someone else's clothing, so to speak, I was completely freed from worrying about the next "bit" or line, and I could actually put the thought of the character across to the audience.

No ups- no extras, a very fine performance, and one that I most thoroughly enjoyed.

Well, it is 12 pm CT, and it's a crazy snowy day in Omaha! Presents are open, and everyone here is by the fire drinking cider and watching 24 hrs of "A Christmas Story". I couldn't think of a better time to wrap of the final touches on the website and make it public. Hope everyone enjoys it. The store will be open for sales Jan 1st, but the site should answer some other questions you may have. Have an incredibly Merry Christmas!
