Even so, to be honest, I'd rather have the ten million.
Have you considered investing in a ten million dollar life insurance policy on them? The premiums wouldn't be that expensive compared to the potential payout.
And, who knows, you might get lucky.

you stated that you "feel" saddened... by someone else's forum post? -sounds rather condescending to me.
You say you will pray for him. IE -asking your invisible friend to effect change in his life- when none was asked of you -would appear to be the exact opposite of "letting him live as he chooses". Unless you don't actually believe in the power of prayer, and are just saying it to sound pious, or maybe just smug...
And you "believe" he doesn't know happiness? Well, that's a pretty sanctimonious judgement on your part, in my opinion, seeing as you don't even know the guy! Personally, I've never seen ONE post by Irfaan that would indicate, to me, that he's unhappy...
I originally had no intention of justifying my post, even being as cool as it was... But this ego-crushing taunting by you forced my hand. I may well cry...
PS- You use the phrase "ACLU" like it's some sort of insult, whereas I find it to be a most noble and honorable of descriptions. Not everyone shares your particular prejudices...
Gaddy if you meanby myinvisible friend "God" which I am sure you do and which I am also sure you do not believe that is your choice.
Lets see I feel saddened that makes me condescending..wow seems like you have iissues and read a lot of things into people posts. I am saddened by 911 nothing condesending about that. I am saddened that Obama is president (this should set you off) nothing condesending about that. I am saddened by some of the actions I did in Viet Nam I am saddened about that. I see nothing condescending about any of these things, just saddened by the fact they happened. I could go on and on but I am sure in all your wisdom you understand what I am saddened by. However, I am also saddened by your lack of understanding..now that is condescending. Do you see the difference?
Never asked God (not ashamed to mention who my invisible friend is) to change his life..I simply prayed for him.
Because he does not have the same values as me is not the reason for my praying for him. It is I feel that his values are far from normal. I do not know about you, but I think if we were to take a poll here and ask the people here what is more important to them in life, their family and love of it or money I feel that the family and love of their family would win out. Not sure which way you would vote.
Your quote follows:

Why do you assume I am asking God to effect change in his life? I do not know that his life needs changing. However I feel that his values are misplaced in putting money over his family. I could say here that you feel the same as he does, but I don't know that. I don't know how you really feel. However you assume my thoughts and that is where we differ.
Not asking God to effect change in his life. Besides if you feel that my praying for him will actually affect his life you obviously agree that it can (sorry but I am not that tight with my invisible friend), ergo you believe in God (my invivible friend) and do not like me praying to him.
I can only end by saying that there is no amount of money that could be put above my family. None, nada. As a husband and father I would die for my family in order to protect them. My wife and children mean everything to me. He obviously sees things differently and the only thing I pray for is for him to see his family in a different light.
You ideals may differ and that is fine.

What the heck does my tag line have to do with anything?
Aside from the fact that this exchange has turned into nitpicking over who "assumes" what, I find your tone disagreeable.
I don't come on to these forums to be bored, nor to be insulted. I regret even having responded to you at all, even in jest.

I could have just as easily used "gaddy" but I choose to use your tag line. Is that a bad thing? I think it is a very catchy tag line.
So you find my tone disagreeable. I am not surprised as we differ quite a bit in our ideals.
Your post was not in jest so please do not suggest that. The comment as to comparinig love of ones family to "magic unicorns" then telling me to leave the guy live his life was uncalled for and distasteful in my opinion since I was not telling him how to live his life. I found his post disturbing becausse he put money above family and love of family. I still find it disturbing and yes it still saddens me that he feels this way. We are all entitled to our feelinigs. You have yours and I have mine.
Let's let it go. As this is doing nothing but creating hard feelings between two individuals who do not even know one another.

Well it could mean two things. One you are a fan of the old Get Smart series. In which case again I say BRAVO!
Two, it could have been from The Dark Knight and Heath Ledgers inspiring performance of the Joker in the hospital with Harvey Dent. Again not a bad choice.

What a coincidence. I am an Accordian. The idea is that our creator loves polka music.
But on a serious note, it seems to me that would be your religion, and you are entitled to this belief as much as those of us who believe in God.
(And I still like my guesses LOL thanks)

... Back to the original question, the answer is cloistered in the layers of moral fabric, values, and concerns for daily life. In other words, is this tax free or not?

Well, you are correct, Jonathan. Our lives are ticking by while we waste precious moments on topics so hypothetical as to be useless. So, what the hell, I'll play: Hey, for 100 million dollars (tax free!), what, exactly, would you NOT DO that is within your abilities to do? Be honest!

The only things that come to mind would be. Not harm my family. Not participate in genocide. Not change my religion. Murder as such.

So you get the $10 mil. The federal government takes about 65% of it. The State probably takes another 30% of what's left. You're still pretty rich, though. But now, every person you've ever known comes calling, asking for a handout. Relatives you can't stand demand their share. You've got to buy extra security so your kids don't get kidnapped for ransom. The tabloids and paparazzi are watching your every move.
Anyone you've ever wronged in any way wants to sue you. God forbid you might have some dirty laundry somewhere in your past, because that's now all over the Web, TV and newspapers. Because of the scandal and hassle, your wife divorces you, and of course, she gets half or better of whatever you might have left. Your kids hate you. You've started abusing drugs, and you have AIDS from those three blond girlfriends, one of whom got drunk and crashed one of your luxury cars and the insurance won't pay for it. Sadly, two people were killed in the accident.
How's that decision looking right about now?

I'd rather have a clear conscience, a good marriage, a good reputation, and peace and privacy than monetary wealth, mansions, luxury cars, and bimbos who are only after my money any day!
Couldn't have said it better myself. I like the way you think.
