Hey guys,
Wanted to know what your opinion about getting some Chinese coins (half dollar size). Johnson are nice but they are too think for my taste, but I also don't want the really thin cheap ones either. Any suggestions? |

Sterling Magic makes some very good ones.

You could go with East African Dimes. They are the same size as Half Dollars, are copper and have a hole in them.

I don't perform the routine but I have heard that those that perform Troy Hoosier's Charming Chinese Challenge like the Sterling coins over Johnson's if that is one of the effects you would like to use the coins for I would go with Sterlings.

Make sure you ask what type coins come from Vanishingincmagic. They are great to deal with, however I got a set of Chinese coins they were very large. I use the sterling coins for Troy's routine. I am very surpirsed how well they can be seen close up or for parlor work.

You can find authentic chinese coins on eBay. I prefer the look of authentic coins over many of the versions available to us through magic stores. I've found quite a few beautiful coins through eBay. Just my suggestion though. PM me if you'd like to see a few.

Are they nice and thin?

Some are, you have to specifically look for thin ones. Most of them are unique coins, so you just have to search and wait for the right coin to come along.
This is the half-dollar sized chinese coin I use (exactly the diameter and thickness of an american half dollar): http://img686.imageshack.us/img686/7287/chinesecoin2.jpg Also, if you look in my signature... "A Magician's Coin List" is a list of coins meant for magicians. Take a look... let me know if you have any questions. Hope that helps. |

The Ton Onosaka coins are very nice. The cheapest you can find them for is $35 for the set - http://www.seomagic-usa.com/catalog/prod......s_id/334
The only problem I have with them is that the paint chips. I fill in the missing paint with a black Sharpie and it looks fine. For Troy Hooser's routine I use the Sterling Magic Chinese coins. |

Let me tell you these are great coins. They are very light weight and the jumbo coin is also light weight and very easy to carry without having that heavy weight.

I don't know who makes them, but Josh Jay sells the thin chinese coins on his OWN site (joshuajay.com), that are specifically for CCC. Comes with the routine and ribbon as well.

Yeah, you can find them here: http://joshuajay.com/merchandise.html
At the bottom of the page. They're a lot like Sasco's coins I think. |

[/quote On the surface level, the $35 price for the Onosaka coins sounds nice, but it costs $30 (at the minimum)to have them shipped, which is about 20 bucks more expensive than the Stevens set, which includes shipping. It costs me $6.50 to ship USPS Priority on that site.
Make sure you are using the USA site. |
