Hi all
I'm looking for a performance on video of the sponge ball route of Eugene Burger. Can anyone point me in the right direction? I would prefer a cheap/free performance only thing. thanks. Servaas

I searched this morning and couldn't find it on YouTube... I thought I had seen it there before, but no luck today.

Find someone who has world's greatest magic "spongeballs" and get them to show you, only place I know it is at.

Greetings and Salutations,
Hey, WGM Spongeballs is, like, 20 skins and tax at your local brick-and-mortar, and it's got fabulous stuff on it, along with Burger's. Watching it and replicating it are easy, if you know the fundamentals of spongeballs. Keep it legal, keep the Karma King happy, and fork over the $20. My $.02 (USD) worth. Not to be a grinch, but let's face it. Eugene gave up a perfectly decent job as a, well, whatever it was he did, in order to become a magician. He makes his living from books, performances, etc. Give the man his due,

It's not a matter of illegally downloading stuff. It's a matter of the way you worded your initial post.
It appeared to me that you wanted to have a look at his routine so you could reverse engineer it and learn his lines. Of course, I always think the best about people until I am prover wrong.

This is going to sound very silly, but I'm serious about this. If you are doing sponge balls for kids, you need to do one or more of the following things.
1) Wash your sponge balls after every show. Use soapy water. With H1N1 going around, these things are veritable virus traps. If you think dirty hands carry diseases, imagine what a wonderful vector for a virus a set of sponge balls can be. 2) Buy your sponge balls by the bag of 50. You can get a bag of 50 balls for roughly what four sets of four will cost you. 3) Don't do sponge balls for kids in hospitals (see #1). (You didn't mention this, but I think it's a good thing to think about.) Good luck with your sponge ball routine. My best other advice is to keep it as simple as possible.

Well...you mention you can't go with an expensive set of DVDs, but where you found this routine is in the Eugene Berger Magical Voyages series.
It's well worth the price and is good spent money...I agree with Bill, let's give this man his due! My best, Hansel!

Eugene Burger stopped performing his sponge routine and never, to my knowledge, really explained why. I suspect that his Dr. Jacks ending forces the performer every time to get on his knees to find his little balls back. Thus, it looks real nice for the performer at the time of performance but may not be very dignifying and counter climatic after the act...
Furthermore, Eugene has been a leader in meaningful patters, and his sponge ball is not (by far) his best production... and I'm a fan of his.

This is true about the Dr. Jaks ending. In fact, if you do this for kids, you will have great difficulty in recovering all of the sponge balls at the end. There was a version of the sponge bunny trick called "Rabbits, Rabbits, Rabbits" that was sold by Tannen's. I think Tenyo actually made the bunnies. It had a very clever way of controlling the final production. But, it still had that really difficult part about gathering up the fallout.

If memory serves, Eugene performed this routine on his Stevens Greater Magic Video Library video.

If you buy now through December 31st, you can buy one WGM (like the Spongeballs DVD) from L&L and get a 2nd WGM DVD free. They do have a secret ordering code, so you either have to discover or ask L&Ls order clerk for the code (or ask them if the code is even necessary since you know of the offer). So, for $19.95, you'll get two of the WGM DVDs (and no S&H).
Hope this helps. Mike

If you are planning to do this for kids, do the sponge bunnies. I'm serious. It fries them. It also fries adults. Buy a half dozen sets of sponge bunnies.
