Years ago I had the three silk bottle production effect (recently found in s corner of my magic cabinet, full of holes) and understand the workings of the routine. I'd like to produce a regular sized and weight (4.5 pound) bowling pin in the same manner. Does anyone know of an oversized silk set that will handle the size and weight of the bowling pin, or do I need to have the effect "made to fit"? I look forward to your responses!

Yes, the professional Paul Kozak version, they have reduced the price considerably and are selling out fast. Hocus-Pocus was the exclusive distributor and dose not have any left.
I found this one for you at Denny Magic. Go here quick before they are all gone: http://www.dennymagic.com/cgi-bin/hazel.......m=007778 It is the only version that will take the weight you suggest. Hurry! Before they are all gone! |

Just out of curiosity... what does a bowling pin have in common with some silks? If the theme is to be bowling, one might consider hand towels of the type bowlers use to dry their hands. I assume a bowling ball will soon follow.

Wmhegbli,
Thanks for the heads-up. I sent the same questions to Bob Sanders to get his thoughts. Not sure if the Kozak gimmick is big enough, but will call Denny Magic to check it out. Professor, thanks for your input; never thought of bowling towels, they could be another option. |

Tim Wright produces a Bowling Pin in his act. I believe he uses a silk, as cover. Being politically correct is not always necessary. It is the impact it creates that counts in magic. He did not say he was creating a themed act about Bowling in his original post.
A Bowling Pin outside of a Bowling Alley does not make any sense at all either. There is an effect of producing a Bowling Pin from the sleeve of a coat. This does not make any sense, unless you are wearing a Bowling shirt of Jacket, and can prove you are coming from a Bowling Alley with your score sheet. As we go along, we can say nothing we use in an act should be there, cards belong in a casino, dice as well. Silks or hankies belong to women. Kozak gimmick fits a large bottle of Booze. If you pin is over the that size it will not work. If you would have posted your needs more clearly, that it had to fit exactly, I would have instructed you that you have to do a search on you own and make your own custom outfit. It is not that hard being you already have a template. Just go to a fabric store and purchase the material and have a seamstress make it up for you. Kozak does not use silk, that is what makes it better then most on the market. |

Wmhegbli,
I've seen Tim's act and you're correct. He does use just a single silk and he brings it out from his table. I may opt for the custom-made, which my daughter could probably sew based on my existing hole filled silks. I have found your suggestions to be most helpful on other topics I've read on the forums and do appreciate the sage advice you offer. Thanks for being so responsive. |

The THIS (Improved) is pure silk and therefore will hold very heavy loads. (Silk has 2/3s the strength of steel!) They are made for a 10 pound load but specifically for an 8 pound magnum bottle of champagne without ripping out the gimmick or the silk.
The improvements are very real! That perhaps explains why it is used by professionals all over the world and the one used by magic prop manufacturers for the pros in conjunction with their finished goods. This is not the product sold twenty-five years ago with serger hems and cheap gimmicks. These are real 100% pure China silks with the best 2mm hems and the internationally branded gimmick is the best available to magicians. It is also self-leveling. It is not a toy even at half the price of some of the less adequate knock-offs. Price is not value. Ask a pro who uses it. Bob Sanders Magic By Sander PS --- A bowling pin is hardly a challenge with it. |

Tnmagicgator,
If I remember correctly, the Kozak trick is made from Satin cloth, not silk. |

When I saw Kozak show it, he said his was made from three different sateen materials. He called it "THAT" production, and each "silk" had a different texture to facilitate handling; he didn't have to look down to know which he was pulling. This was a few years ago, though.

Thanks for the input guys....I've spoken with Bob Sanders and he appears to have just what I'm looking for and it would have the capacity to hold a bowling pin. As a new poster, I just can't say enough about everyone's responsiveness and willingness to share of their knowledge. I am impressed!

Satin will certainly work in this effect. Having different textures on the fabric would have some advantages.

Richard, where is Ravenna in Ohio? I'm traveling to Columbus in a few weeks and might be tempted to make a side trip if you're anywhere near there. Thanks for the tip on the satin.....I am going to check out Bob Sanders silks first.
