Just wondering...
what is the most non-street oriented routine or effect you guys have seen done by a busker? How did it play out? was it good? bad?

I'm guessing things you would normally see on a stage, but not on the street.
For example, Losander Floating Table. While I did not see that on the street it was in a festival trying to recreate the street feel. Semi-busker: Pay to enter venue, but the hat was passed.

A guy who played Bach on the Marimba. This was on the Stachus in Munich. He had a huge crowd and he made beaucoups bucks.

A sub trunk seems like a real pain in the rear to cart around busking - but if it plays well and nails the hats...
Also - were they more of a set location in an area known for shows?

The Luzern guy in a Tux who rolled out his concert grand piano onto his pitch with little track robots on each leg
I certainly didn't expect to see that on the busker trail...

I saw Chris Capehart do the table levitation in Philadelphia. It was awesome. I have seen sub trunks, zig zags, manipulation acts, vents and here in SF..a guy who hides behind bushes and scares the crap out of passing tourists.

I once saw Doug Henning perform the sub trunk on the streets of New York. I believe it was for the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade.

In Milwaukee some years back, the city was paying buskers to try to make the downtown more tourist friendly (Wisconsin folk aren't known for generosity). Saw one guy set up a veritable stage act with larger illusions. The angles were horrible and wasn't mobile. And never saw much go into the hat.

Who is that chalk artist than draws impossible scenes on the street and gets people involved as characters in the deception? That is extraordinary!

Funsway,
that guy is amazing... a degree of talent rarely seen and he is using it in such a great manner. imjic, That is what I love to hear. more cities need to embrace the art and realize it creates a great social and economic boost to areas looking to be more tourist and patron friendly.

Yeah...I've done the Sub Trunk on the street it didn't seem any big deal,in fact it lends itself to the street quite well.Of course we were using a cloth on a rectangular frame so were effectively surrounded.Always went well.

I have heard of a guy in seattle who rolls out a piano as well.

I wonder how the hats are in terms to the pain of lugging stuff like that around vs a more flat pack show...
Do you guys think adding large visible things such as this help to increase the crowd? Obviously it creates more spectacle... but does it make the hats bigger to overcome the added costs of towing around such things?

For things like this remember cost is relative. In regards to the piano guy I heard of, he had someone picking him up in a van. So the cost would all depend on his arrangment with the van owner.
