Hi,
I'm putting this up as a "sneak-peek" at my new "animal act". Will be shooting it again with better lighting A.S.A.P. A very very Happy New Year, all! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EbRHn1JM-8w Jadoo's treehouse: http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?pid=10......18255547 |

Laurie,
Thanks for your "sneak peek". It just so happens, after seeing a similar effect, I was thinking of adding something similar to my walk-around magic. Then I see this. This gets my creative juices going. Nice job. |

Thankyou both for commenting. Appreciated.
Here's another part of the act I'm working on: The Ladies and Lynxes (David Roth's "The Purse and Glass") |

Laurie,
The presentation for Jadoo is very nice. I would suggest one minor tweak at the end. Jadoo runs into the forest to escape the hungry lions. The lions follow Jadoo to his hiding place and just as they are about to pounce discover that he has vanished! Then comes the definition of the name Jadoo. The presentation for ladies and Lynxes has one major flaw in my mind, "why"? Why do the ladies and lynxes switch places? Are they trying to escape? Are they cursed to change at midnight? Do they change or actually switch places? There is also the issue of props. We have ladies, lynxes, a bag and a chamber, this is a lot to keep track of, especially if you are a simplton like me! The coins represent animals and ladies/maidens, this is all good. The chamber represents a green chamber. Can this be explained as a secret chamber in a castle? or perhaps a magical well? What does the bag/purse represent? Jadoo has a nice plot, drama and a happy ending. Ladies and Lynxes while technically fine lacks a story and is unmotivated. The props are a distraction that can work if motivated. In my humble opinion, for what it is worth. Taj |

Thanks very much for your comments, Taj.
Regarding the representations- what you can't see on the video is that the coins have images of ladies (Queen Victoria) and lynxes (1967 Canadian centennial quarters)- in a true close-up setting they'd be clearly visible, and thus there'd be less remembering for the audience. The "chamber" is a miniature green St. Patrick's Day beer mug, representing a chamber. The purse represents a bag. As in the type used in escapes. The effect is meant to resemble a miniature stage illusion. Hence the big cats and ladies. When the magical chamber is entered, magical things happen. It allows transposition of the ladies and lynxes. It may be interpreted as a metamorphosis, I suppose, but fundamentally it's a transposition. It is stated that the ladies are letting the cats "out of the bag". If the audience's imagination wants to take it further, I think I'm ok with that right now. I appreciate your insight, I've had some concerns with this one, in terms of clarity. So I appreciate hearing from others about how they feel it plays. So far, some have really liked it. Some hate it. I recall, I think Simon Lovell said he hoped people would feel strongly about his work, one way or the other. I seem to be getting that with this one. I was a little hesitant going this presentation route with David Roth's routine. And with a few of the others in the act, as well. So I tried to keep as close to the original script as possible. I guess what's required, however, may be an extreme departure. Part of the problem here may be that I've taken the effects out of the context of the act. The Ladies and Lynxes are introduced earlier in the act in a flourishy effect. It's stated then that they'll be back a little later in the show. So when they return to the stage, the audience should be familiar with them. I'll do what I can to get this one able to stand alone, as well. Thanks again. Feedback always appreciated. Laurie |

Laurie,
I didn't realize that you were doing a miniature stage show. Interesting idea! In that context the ladies and lynxes work a little better for me. I'm going to add a penny to my previous two cents commentary. The chamber is a St. Patrick's day beer mug, this explains the green color, leprechaun joke and the magic Café reference, while cute, I would eliminate the explanation of the green color and the subsequent jokes that follow. The chambers color is irrelevant in the context of the act. I'm more interested in 'what it is' rather than 'what color it is'. (just me of course). The purse/bag might be explained as a cage cloaked in darkness to soothe the restless spirit of these majestic creatures. Something along those lines perhaps. A stage show in miniature is a good idea and this point should be emphasized during the act. I have no doubt that with a little polish you will have a fine presentation of the ladies and lynxes. Thanks, Taj. I have wondered about cutting the green stuff out. Though there's a little "don't judge a book by it's cover" in it, perhaps. I like your ideas on adding storyline details here. The suggestions you've provided are lovely. Quite mystical. Thanks for sharing your thoughts with me.
Thanks, jazzy snazzy. Appreciated. Laurie |

I've been thinking about this and trying different things, and have discovered that green actually is key and connected to my philosophy and the theme for the show.
