For a non-gaffed AAA book test it would be hard to beat the IBT book test.

Unless I am mistaken it was the words "your family and friends" and not "shock and disbelief" that prompted Bob's comment in which case I wholeheartedly concur and very nearly posted my own note to that effect. I restrained myself from doing so to avoid the flames of outrage that it might have precipitated from many subscribers (not to mention the management). For those who are capable of reading between the lines: "if the shoe fits, wear it."

Dick is correct. An earlier line from the same ad is similar- ". . .finally a book test that can be done with modern and popular books your friends already have."
The ad also refers to the effect as a "wonderful magic trick." I'm not commenting at all on the merits of the effect itself as I have not seen it. Just observing that the selection of words used in the ad reveals much about the target demographic and/or the creator's conception of "mentalism." Good thoughts, Bob |

I agree with Dick and Bob.
As Bob, I also don't comment on the effect because I don't have the slightest idea on how it plays. However, if you allow me for an idle thought... Friends and family are among the most difficult people to fool, not to mention having them in shock and utter disbelief...

Paolo,
True of course and I'm hardly the only pro who tries new ideas out on family members and, occasionally, friends. But they are not the market that is my bread and butter. The wording of the ad makes it pretty clear that the effect is being ptiched to those for whom friends and family ARE the primary market, i.e., the newbies, hobbyist and amateurs. That is NOT said to belittle the newbies, hobbyists and amateurs, but simply in recognition of the fact that they comprise the largest and most fertile market. There are only a handful who can earn a living selling only to the serious workers (and they don't rely on Internet marketing). Those who sell most of the magic -- especially those who market via the Internet -- must appeal to the largest possible market as must those who create and produce what the dealers and shops sell; i.e., the same "market" that comprises the overwhelming majority of subscribers to the Café.

Well, of course it is. The blog is on the Hocus-Pocus website. They sell it.

... and it's not REALLY a review...

Romhany's "review" is not a review at all. He simply says it's great and repeats the text of the Hocus Pocus ad promoting it. There is nothing to suggest that he has even seen the actual product. Meanwhile I have received a notice from Hocus Pocus that my copy was mailed on Tuesday. As soon as it arrives and I have a chance to look it over in detail I will post a review and while you are free to either agree or disagree with my evaluation, at least you will know that my comments are based on actually having seen and examined it.

Like Dick, I also fail to see how Romhany' s review is different than the sales blurb. But perhaps it's just me (and Dick).
Oh... btw, My other post about friends and family was just a joke, I thought that in order for this effect not just to fool your friends but to shock them and levae them in utter disbelief... that booktest should be super fu*ki*g good! I hope you will post us with a detailed review when you get it.

Dick & Paolo,
DITTO! I kept searching the blog looking for a 'review'--instead of an extended sales pitch!! Tom |

My copy of the book test arrived today and I have just posted my review under "Tricks and Effects" in the "The Good, Bad and Garbage" section of the Café.
