I've been reviewing some other topics trying to get an idea what people use for a card changing case, whether or not people use them much, favorite routines to use with this type of prop, etc.
I've checked out the ones offered by Mikame and Viking, but only online. I like the overall look of the Viking one, which they call "European Card Box". But looks certainly can be deceiving so I don't want to spend money based on looks alone! Anyone using these or other makes/models feel they are examinable or not? Or is an issue that doesn't arise much in your experience with them? Any insights, suggestions, advice, etc. on this topic are welcome. |

This may have been posted in the wrong area. I'm open to suggestions as to where this might be more appropriate to post.

I haven't seen the Mikame, but I'm a fan of their products in general -- especially their wood products.
I do have the European cardbox and am very pleased with it. A caveat is that I bought it years ago, so the quality may have changed in the intervening time, but anyway... In my box, the gimmick will pass a casual inspection -- even a close inspection -- but I as the magician can see slight differences. Still, I used it in a card-to-impossible-location trick at my magic club just last month, and even seasoned, long-time magicians were completely fooled. The thing you will want to be careful about is when the gimmick "talks" while closing the box. It isn't bad, but you will want to be pattering when you close the box. It sounds a little like a latch closing, but since there is no latch, you'll want them thinking about something else. The best thing about it is the gimmick will not tip itself afterwards. It's in there to stay until you use their tool to get it out. Hope that helps, Bill |
