Cf, thank you for your observation on the hop. I never would use this for a pass either, when I use it I always cut the cards in the spectators outstretched hands, believe me no misdirection is needed.
I remember 3 or 4 years ago at Boomers in Las Vegas, I did this for Paul Harris, Ackerman, and Louie Siemonoff; they said, "Hey, what did you do? Can you do it again?" They saw nothing. That's how powerful this control is. Also check out Jack Carpenter's handling. vinny |

I am having troubles getting the hop burnable like Vinny's.
Don't know what I am missing, however... Rather then doing the hop... I started one hand top palming the top card from the first half... there is some perfect movement and misdirection built in IMHO. Is there a name or credit for that?

I still think the most deceptive move is DL......but Jack Carpenter's card work is absolutely good!! I like all the videos he has on the youtube!!

My vote is for Tenkaiesque by John Carney. But then I'm unable to view Vinny's video from my mobile.

This is such a gorgeous move, so deceptive and beautiful. Im so happy its not SO widely known that every teenager with a pack of cards is trying to teach it on you tube...
Sometimes you just cant help but admire the mind that creates this stuff. AMAZING! |

I think this is perfect as part of an ACR. I wonder how it can be done without a table. Maybe on a spectator's hand?

I perform the hop all the time in the spectators hands.
. just ask them to hold out both hands touching together, then then cut the cards in their hands while exceuting the hop. if you want a demo just pm me ... vinny |

Vinny... I think I have an idea. It probably will kinda distract them too since they want to keep the cards from falling out of their hands.

This is a beautiful move! I've been watching Harry Lorayne's "Invisible Pass Routine" included on Magical Classics. Very deceptive, and I was completely fooled the first few times I watched it; it's impossible to see even when you know what's going on. It really is all about getting the timing right. I really like Harry's emphasis on the need to do a two count rather than three count action. But am I the only one who finds he executes the two moves so quickly after each other that the overall effect loses clarity in the mind of a spectator, and it can be hard for an audience to even follow that a cut is happening?
I've been experimenting with pausing between the two counts to point with my left hand to the top packet dropped on the table. This action is also used as a cover for giving a reason to transfer the bottom packet from my left hand to my right, which happens in one action while the top packet is being dropped onto the table. Now I can wait all the time in the world between the two counts, because the "move" has already been done. I'm thinking that this might help increase clarity for the spectators. Does someone have a link for the video clip that shows Jack Carpenter's handling of The Hop? |

Late to the party here; while Harry Lorayne popularised the move, does anyone know it’s origins? Where was it first in print? Thanks!

Oh, and while you're there you might want to watch about 34 other items from my "Best Ever" 4-volume DVD set. All newer than the Invisible Pass Routine - that was taken from an OLD video of mine.

Harry, that’s just what I’ve been doing this afternoon! Such great material! Top recommendation!
But I’m looking for where the move was first in print. |

Oh, just thought I'd respond to EndersGame after all the years. He said: "But am I the only one who finds he (meaning me) executes the two moves so quickly after each other that the overall effect loses clarity in the mind of a spectator, and it can be hard for an audience to even follow that a cut is happening?"
Response: So far, during all the decades in which I've done the routine - thousands of times? - NO, it's never been hard for any of my audiences to follow that a cut was happening.

And as such, used as the force application, it can also be used to perform Card at Any Number.
