Daff,
Probably not for ditching a full deck. It's great for switching out gaff cards, though. Darrin, I'm not too familiar with Blackout, but it sounds very interesting, so I'll look into it. You can, however, switch coins back in with TKO. It's designed for retrieving the vanished coin. Blackout may be quicker and appear cleaner switching back - not sure. TKO is a great add-on to your already used coin moves - especially for ditching gaffs or extra coins. It also lends itself to creating new routines not possible without a topit. D.Duane |

I watched Platt perform Blackout about 300 times or more close up, I never saw the gimick. I never once saw anyone he was performing for spot a thing. They only seemed to be looking at Platt's hands.
I did not figure it out until Platt tip me the secret after doing in frount of me over 20 times. It fooled me completely. Tim Wisseman |

Duane,
Yes, I realize the coin from the TKO can be retrieved, but it isn't as effortless as blackout (at least from what I can gather). As I understand it, a coin is retrieved from the TKO in a going to the pocket move. I know the TKO has interested me more than any topit. I think my next step will be to get blackout with the next paycheck. I'll report back to the Café. |

To anybody interested in my opinion,
First off It's been a grsat while since I've posted but I couldn't resist. I dislike having to compare which one of the two are better - heck get both, I did! In being a bit mmore specific, I love my TKO and Blackout! On weekends I'm pretty much laid back with my T-shirt and jeans and perform Blackout all day long. In casual settings (but a bit more formal - buttoned up shirt) I perform TKO (although TKO is not just limited to coins but don't under estimate the impact Blackout leaves on a spectator eventhough it's limited) - plain and simple. Nuff sed - but wish everybody all the best, David

I just got the Blackout, and it is VERY cool! It's one of those effects you'll be amazing yourself in the mirror as you practice (and it really does not take that much practice to become good at it, really-raven took me a lot more effort to make it look as good)....
I was at first very skeptical about the method until I saw how well it was constructed, and I've since experienced with it that people really won't see what they are not looking for... |

Yes, you can have a jacket, but you have to wear a button-up shirt under the jacket.

In all the TKO demos I see people performing it wearing balck button down shirts. Is the shirt being black or very dark a requirement. Any feedback on this question would be greatly appreciated.

If you do a search for The Kaylor Option you will find a long thread which answers almost any question you might have about it. In answer to that specific question the answer is no but it's better if you do wear a dark shirt.

I just don't think you can compare Blackout with TKO. Apples and oranges.
Both of these items are very good, high quality items. I have both. One is a gimmicked coin, the other a topit-like utility device. Blackout allows you to do a cleaner retrieval, but TKO has applications far beyond coins. Blackout requires a more limited range of clothing, but TKO requires a bit more preparation. One in place, both allow you do seeming miracles at a moment's notice.

I have both and I would never say one is better or worse than the other - it's silly to even make that comparison.
Both are very effective when mastered and when used in the proper context. There are certain situations where I wouldn’t use either. IMO both require a fair amount of misdirection; nothing earth-shaking, but some misdirection should be used. If you are not well-practiced with either device you will most likely expose what you are doing. But isn't that true of virtually all gimmicks in magic? Let's face it: there are NO true "self-working" magic gimmicks. These are both tools for the magician and it is the performer who makes the magic work, not the device. If people are able to see where you put the coin then you have not put in the time and effort to master it. With TKO you need to get to the point where you can make the move to it naturally, without making obvious movements, speeding up suddenly, etc. And for the most part the same goes for Blackout. I can definitely say if you are not completely comfortable and confident with either gimmick, then there is a good chance you will expose it. I use both just for coin work and I would recommend to anyone to purchase either or both devices, and then to practice until its use is second nature to you. Either way you will have a killer effect! Like anything else, it depends one's natural talent, current level of magic chops, and previous experience and knowledge of working with topits. That sounds reasonable right?

How about TKO vs. The Workers Vest from Buskers Gear?
Although as I understand it the Workers Vest has more built into it, when it comes to the ditching and retrieving end of it if you don’t mind wearing a vest is the ditch easier and/or more reliable then TKO? |

I have both, however, I prefer Blackout for my purposes.
