My favorite part of Corinda's Tome has to be the code section. It astounds me that so much can be packed into one volume. It is an arsenal.

I like his tricks and suggestions for using the swami gimmick. I also like the card tricks too.

My favorite part? It's a hard decision, because I really do like this book a lot, not just as a source of material, but as a historical document covering the state of mentalism of the day.
But if pressed, I'll have to vote for the dust cover. I can close my eyes right now and still see it as if it were before me. They just don't illustrate books like that anymore.

Step 2, pure class. Very clever stuff indeed.
Not very keen on all the Swami stuff though, just seems a bit...outdated really...but a good grounding nethertheless. |

Asking what the best part of 13 steps is, is like asking what the best part of a certain course is like Math 30 or psychology 201.
13 Steps is a study course that should NOT be skimmed, nor glanced through for only the things that interest you. Everything should be studied and learned, step by step until it is all mastered. Why on earth would someone want to study a few parts? Do you not want to be the BEST? Why would one want to do a halfa#$!d job at something? Does not make good sense. I'm not sure why you assume that I won't study it all, and I am equally skeptical that reading it will make me the "BEST".
Rest assured that I will read it from cover to cover, but I was wondering what people considered to be the best things in there. Every book has its plums. Liam. |

Montz,
You are missing the table of contents because there is no table of contents. The index in the back is all there is. You could probably put together a nice show using only the card section. Good luck, Brady |

The tricks are O.K., but the concept and content of it makes it the best. You can read it and think it horrible, but everyone has an opinion. To a skilled worker, theres everything you need in there.

What's really good in this book is that you can read it as a beginner and have an overview of almost everything that you can do as a mentalist. But you can also read it as a performer and discover new things each time you open it.

For me, the best part of this book is the organizational approach. Originally published as 13 lessons and sent out separately, this modular approach allows a reader to concentrate on the aspects of the art that they are most interested in, initially.
Unlike so many magic books today, where tricks are seemingly just dropped in, with very little delineation of types of effect (a card effect followed by a coin effect, followed by a mental magic trick, followed by a balloon animal, for example), this book is organized into a logical study program. Would that more publishers took this route! It also allows someone to spread out into areas they might never have considered in the first place, like 2-person work or seance material. The book is a masterpiece and, IMPO, is part of the Required Trilogy - 13 Steps, Paramiracles and Mind, Myth & Magic. With 13 Steps being the foundation from which to start. Kind regards, Lee Darrow, C.Ht.
