David Copperfield indeed extends, for our entertainment pleasure as Daryl would put it, the life of big-show magician in the Dante Thurston Blackstone tradition.
I don't want to give deep consideration to the case that he got dragged in court for because, like the bashing, it's in my opinion just pure financial envy and jealousy and bitterness melted in greed. It seems funny that nobody connected this court case attempts with the ones against Michael Jackson: common sense is not so common I guess. The need to bring human idols down is clearly strong. It did break Michael Jackson, let's hope that it didn't break David Copperfield. His fame is serving magic well in the world. Talent is something that we should put under the spotlights as it helps taking us out of the shade that entertainment agents try to keep us in due to the overwhelming number of non professional performers prepared to sell what THEY call magic for cheap fees. I got to know David in Paris with his friend Christian Fechner during the Claudia Schiffer times when idiots were already bashing him and trying to bring him down. I then visited him when he settled in his three floors apartment with private pool in New York with his bedroom having the most outstanding view overlooking central park (... and, no, he didn't attempt any sexual aggression or anything when he showed me the incredible view). We also had a nice dinner with my now departed friend Jeffrey Steiner who had a collection of old fair automata and games of all kinds that David wanted to purchase to complete his own collection. David, even if he thinks that I'm even crazier than he is, has always appeared as a very pleasant man, shown to be a good business man, demonstrated being a smart marketing campaign manager, shared a creative spirit, and seen himself as a family person as well (I was privileged in meeting with his father after a show) and we all know that he is a superb performer second to none. I'm glad to hear that he is out of the problems and I think that we should confront the usual "there is no smoke without fire" with the even older "Lie, lie, something will always remain from it". Nasty rumors are hard to combat and tough to kill. Cheer up, David: there are some magicians supporting you.
Magic is the art of emotionally sharing live impossible situations

I have and will ALWAYS be a DC Supporter. He made MAGIC what it is and is one of the most recognized names in showbiz. There not one magician who types on this Café as perfected and as successful as the GREATEST magician of all time : Mr. David Copperfield.

Please refer to page 116 in the new Doug Henning biography, "Spellbound-The Wonder-filled Life of Doug Henning". On that page is an interesting description of the Broadway show "The Magic Show", starring Doug, when the cast all attended an opening night celebration at the famed Sardi's in Manhattan. At the end of a very long table, with Doug at one end as the guest of honor, was a gawky teenage kid, named David Kotkin, who was soaking up all the electricity of the moment, while learning a wealth of information about stage craft and professional theater. He later changed his name to Copperfield, adapted the music, dancers, and illusions that had so successfully served Henning. I had the pleasure of watching Henning live at the Pantages Theater in 1980, when he performed his full tour show. Since then, I've seen Copperfield, Burton, McBride, Seigfrid and Roy, and the Pendragrons-to name a few. Nobody created live magic like Henning.
Nothing is truer than the incomprehensible, because the sum total of our knowledge consists of the fact that we know nothing. Our reality is an illusion. Thus illusion is reality-Punx

Magic will never be the same since Doug turned us all around.

Yup. One of our members here, Toni Gerard, owns a magic shop in that town called the Timid Rabbit. He's great to deal with.

Timid Rabbit is a cool place in Kalamazoo just to stop in- lots of great props and costumes in there. But best of all, Tony aways whips out a deck of cards and procedes to blow your mind... He fans out the deck and you freely pick any card---he already knows what it is... Tony has own publications and manuscripts there as well including his inside very funny story collections from well known magicians.

You are probably referring to Tony's idiosyncratic (sp?) force. I have raved about that here before, as he absolutely and repeatedly smoked me with it at Abbott's years ago.
Best force ever created. Hands down. And Tony is a real cool guy. Always shares a trick with you...

Hey, for anyone interested, a bunch of us SW area Michigans are sitting in the Grand Tier, left front (Section LEFG, upper balcony, row 23 or so, about seat 33)) for the 8:30PM May 10 David Copperfield show in Kalamazoo. These tickets are only $27 and a real bargain considering the normal show price for a Vegas/MGM ticket version of the Copperfield show for the rest of this summer are in the $65-to $97 range. http://www.MillerAuditorioum.com If you want to buy your own dinner and drinks, we will be at the nearby University Roadhouse on Michigan Avenue (right in front of the WMU Police Department) at 6:30PM if you care to join us. Nice place to eat and fairly cheap as well. Hope to see you in beautiful Kalamazoo!
