I would like to try some routines with a copper-silver coin, but I only use current UK coinage. Does anyone know where I could get a cs coin, preferably 2p/10p?

Any suggestions appreciated - thanks!

Thanks, Dan - I'm off to London in a couple of weeks' time, and I'll see what Davenports can do, but that advice could prove useful.

If you're gonna be in London, you could try International Magic too.

And here's a link to a UK coin specialist - [expired link]

Failing any of them, you could try
http://www.merchantofmagic.com.
I also think that
http://www.alakazam.co.uk
are equiped to make coins if they believe there to be sufficient demand.

Nick, Mark Mason of J.B.Magic has a Hopping Half set in 10p and 2p listed on his latest 'hot list'! The price quoted is £32.00 but it could answer your problem with a little 'extra'! Smile
The website is http://www.jbtv.co.uk Smile

Just to wind things up - I've taken Wallace's advice, and purchased the 're-occurring coins' set (UK version of hopping halves). Now I have a new routine to learn as well, and need to get the hang of avoiding the tell-tale noise of the coins... Should be fun.

Thanks again for all the advice.

I don't think a copper/silver with a 10p and 2p is available because the two coins are different sizes!

Okay its a fraction, and the 2p can be cut down, but in most routines the audience would be seeing the genuine coin also for comparison. Maybe it would get by..but the coins are pretty small anyway.

I agree about the coin size, but I prefer using coins in UK circulation, and people don't carry enough £2 coins for them to be familiar and borrowable. Or maybe they just don't trust me enough to admit to having them in case I ask... A member of my last Church youth group lived by the maxim 'Never trust a smiling vicar'.

I think it's a lamentable lack of foresight among the designers of UK coins not to take account of the needs of magicians in the way they've reduced the size of coins over the years. It would make me a campaigner for the Euro if I hadn't heard that the Euro coins are even smaller!

Combine this with paper money that starts at a US value of about $8 per note, and you can see why so many UK magicians use US currency - I just prefer the 'natural' look with gimmicks as well as with sleights.

Having received the 're-occurring coins' from Alakazam, the cs coin is pretty good. As you say, Paul, it wouldn't stand more than a brief comparison with a real 2p, but I reckon I should be ok if I keep it moving... I'll let you know!
