I am interested in doing John Bannon's "Oz Deposit". Requires flash paper and what he calls "sparkle matches". I have spent a fair amount of time tonight searching Google and the Café for a source and haven't hit on one yet. I would be very grateful if someone could give me a source. Also, if my memory is correct, I recall someone telling me that the matches can be made DYI. Is this true (or advisable)?
Thanks. |

Angelo, they're unavailable in US. They ARE abundant in Europe. I think they are referred to as "Indoor Fireworks"... there was a thread on it here a few weeks back.

Thegreatnippulini,
Thanks. That explains why I was drawing a blank on my searches. I did not search "indoor fireworks". I'll give it another go and see what I can find. Angelo |

Okay, are you looking for sparklers? cause I did a search for indoor fireworks and whatever they call them in Europe those are totally sparklers. and I weep for the childhood devoid of sparklers. either way you can get them in various places depending on where in the us you live, but as a general rule every fireworks store is going to carry them(in a variety of colors for the discerning fireworks buyers among us) if for nothing else than for setting off the fuses of other fireworks. but being safer than real fireworks, you can also sometimes find them in dollar stores and convenience stores for a pretty good price. Hope I helped.

The thread WAS here a few weeks ago, I just looked for it but couldn't find it. Use the search here at the Café to find it. They are NOT sparklers. Sparklers need a long or intense heat to start... the indoor fireworks I'm referring to look like matches and work by simply striking on the cover.

I had made some a few years ago with wood matches. You could use a VERY thin coat of rubber cement just below the tip and then roll in sparkle additive. I suppose that superglue gel would also work. They did the trick for me back then.

I lost track of this thread over three and a half years ago and didn't see the last couple of posts until just now. I'm a little late but thanks for the info.
