I just heard word that Mickey Silver is going to actually tip some of his amazing coin work for the first time in his life. Imagine holding onto incredible magical methods you have created - for THREE DECADES. That takes will-power. The same kind of discipline that could put in untold thousands of hours to become a singular perfectionist. A ninja of magic.
He has, as many of us know, already generously shared his killer coin magic by the unprecedented mailing of tapes to whoever desired one a few years back. He mailed untold thousands of tapes, around the world, out of his own pocket. I got a few and was thrilled by what I saw. Unforgettable, viewing those tapes for the first time. You knew this was a new world opening before you. On these tapes we saw mind-blowing magic using some kind of obviously new cutting-edge coin work that was not revealed. The ultimate magical tease! This left us all drooling, wanting more. Years passed. WELL - the wait is (partially) through. Hard to believe but TRUE, finally. Mickey is booked to lecture (just over a month from now) At the World Magic Seminar. This takes place at the Orleans Hotel in Vegas from Feb 28th through March 3rd! Mickey's thinking is truly outside any known magical rule book. His methods are original, radical and direct. His philosophy of entertainment cuts to the chase, and reinvents what we thought we knew was possible. THIS said - What I really want to know is this: exactly WHAT is Mickey going to be teaching to those who attend his lecture? (I would not be surprised if he kept some his most cherished and brilliant moves/inventions for future revealing.) Whatever he teaches, I feel that any magician who truly cares for our beautiful craft will have to listen! I for one, am looking forward to having my coin-magic horizons broadened and my way of thinking tweaked & expanded. It's about time that the man preceded his own legend. See you there! |

This was announced several months ago and has been discussed to death (so much in fact that I believe the thread was removed)!
***THIS said - What I really want to know is this: exactly WHAT is Mickey going to be teaching to those who attend his lecture?*** I reckon the only one that would know that would be Mickey himself... at least until after the lecture! MMc |

I very much look forward to this lecture! Mickey is a hell of a nice guy and a great magician!
I believe Bill Wells had stated publically in the original thread that Mickey would be discussing his retention vanish (SUV). Evikshin |

Yet a part of me is dreading the day that I start seeing Mickey's stuff posted all over YouTube with titles like, "Mickey Silver's Retention Vanish Revealed!!!!!" I know that in this day and age nothing sold or lectured about can avoid that kind of exposure, but I guess I just happened across a little too much of that over the last couple of weeks. Saddening in a way because it shows just how darned lacking in any sense of honor and respect so many people are. Some have always been like that but it seems to be more and more of late. As I get older, I realize it is better to know the questions than all the answers.
Getting there is a wonderful ride. I wonder how lonnnnnnnnnnng this thread will last. Harris with his tongue somewhere near his cheek. Hi ho Mickey and others that create something that is theirs. .... Hi Ho Silver AAWAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY Now where is that ukulele?

I am not a happy camper. I have heard that Mickey is giving out a special Mickey Silver casino chip at the lecture but the only way to get one is to go. I have also heard that the chip is shimmed so you can use it with a magnet or PK ring. I can't make it. I've known him for years and even I can't get one. Wish I could go but I don't have the bucks or time off. Anyone that can make it, should go. I am jealous.

Mickey's magic cannot be reduced to a retention of vision vanish otherwise we would all have replaced his with ours and audiences would be flooded with his magic. Go there and learn whatever Mickey shares: that alone will be a treat. Now if we get that move, it's ok. Now release of great moves on You tube have never prevented people from being fooled and, in the real world who has no notion of who is Dai Vernon, or Tony Slydini, who will rush on Mickey's move.
Who is the great mind who said that the best way to bury a move was to publish it?

I know, I know...
I wasn’t trying to start a "whine-fest", or cry in my beer too much! It was just that I had been searching for some info about a few magical things yesterday and it seemed like the first 50 results for every item that I threw at Google were exposure-type pages! Then I came here... Thanks! Jim |

After what was literally nearly 85 pages of anticipating Mickey's release of material many years back, there was endless speculating that Mickey wanted everyone to think about their magic before he tipped anything.
Mickey was so clever and such a great teacher that he wasn't giving up anything until we all had years to ponder his methods and way of thinking. Now that's genius. He even made a video of himself doing the same moves endlessly. I must've watched that video for a half hour thinking he was finally going to tip his work, and it finally ended the same way it started. Mickey may be a talented guy with original material, but I certainly wouldn't waste any more time with a topic on this until someone actually has something in their hand. It's like chasing bigfoot. |

Key is to think for yourself in order to improve your magic. No one person has the key...our brains are powerful weapons.

You all can think for yourselves, but I'm not missing the opportunity to finally meet this famous and talented coin magician, of whom we have all heard so much. Of course, I'm talking about Magicalaurie.
I mean, Mickey's great, but I've met him before. Actually, I'm happy to be on the Close Up Show with Mickey. I figure he'll do the coins, Howard Hamberg rocks with cards, Josh Jay rocks with everything, that leaves me--what--mentalism with sponge bunnies?

I was referring to people who complain that he hasn't released any material...There are a lot of clues in the posts that Mickey has written here on the Café regarding his thinking and approach to magic, and part of the fun is to attempt (or die trying) to apply one's own brainpower to figuring things out! Great to hear that you will be at the WMS. Definitely want to make sure that I see you in action . Best -Evik |
