The greatest hindrance to 'creativity' is the simple lack of belief in yourself AS creative! Highly recommend: "A Whack on the Side of the Head: How You Can Be More Creative" by Roger Von Oech. It's a terrific resource for those wanting to 'be' more creative and able to do such things as a magician as writing ones own patter, etc.
