I have several steel jumbo 3" coins and every one ofhem has a dull, "chalky" finish to them. Does anyone know what I could do to give them a more polished an shiny look? I've tried Tarn-X but that did not work.

Are they chromed jumbos? or are they the nickle jumbos... the nickle 3 inch coins won't ever have the look of the chromed ones.
Chromed go for about 20 and up Nickle are about 3 bucks. Shawn

Get some Mothers Mag and Aluminum polish. This stuff is great for all metals. Buff it on and off a few times and use paper towels. The cheaper cast coins take a lot of elbow grease! When you're done, wipe them off with a damp cloth and then dry them.
NOW, hit them with a few coats of clear lacquer (not acrylic) spray paint clear coat. They will light up like silver AND you'll never have to polish them again! PS. This works great for silver canes too - minus the clear coat of course. Good luck! Christian |

Thanks Zaprig1! That sounds like it may work. I found that stuff at Wal-Mart and will try it out today. Thanks again!!
As for ShawnB, yes the ones I have are the cheaper nickel jumbo's. I got a mixed lot of them off of Ebay last year (two each of penny, nickel, dime, quarter, and half dollar) for $14 + shipping so it really wasn't a bad deal at all. They work great in performance, but it is just that the dullness does not compliment the gleen on my regular sized coins at all. |

In fact it points out the fact that you just switched coins. Otherwise, they would match. I wish more performers were aware of this. It just makes the suspension of disbelief all the more difficult when you allow discordant elements into your act.

WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! My Gawd!!!!!!!!!!! The Mothers Mag and Aluminum made the cins look like new!!! That was incredible. Nothing I did would get these things to shine, even using Tarn-X, but this stuff worked like a charm!!!
FYI, it works AWESOME on real coins too. I shined up a set of Franklin halves and they look gem mint now. It is absolutely incredible. Thanks again for the heads up! |

Magicjack-
YES the stuff rules! I use it for most all my props and illusions, not to mention all the aluminum trim on my Lund walleye boat! Very glad I could help! People will react MUCH better to a shiny coin when the transposition happens. Don't forget the clear coat and you'll never have to polish them again... Good luck! Christian |
