Well, for a start, not everyone is a "traditional" magician, and therefore not everyone uses a black wand with white tips. I sure don't, so most wand gags are lost on my show. Not every magician is male, and therefore not every magician dresses in a tux or in a silly pant suit, and not every magician can wear a top hat, etc.
Sometimes I wonder if my show would've been boring if I was male, the amount of creativity I've had to inject into my character, props, and gags has mostly been because of challenges I faced as a female performer! I wear a dress, so no pockets. Imagine doing a show without pockets! Alexa |

I caught Jimbo's lecture at Blackpool and he has an excellent Silver Sceptre routine, with a great ending too which makes a nice change from the usual "right, now its risen a couple of times I'll do my next trick..."

I tried ONE TIME and the elastic is starting to get loose, with the little bead hanging out a little. I mean come on there's cheap and then there's CHEAP. Are you talking about a normal 260 balloon?

I purchased mine from India and have had to shorten the elastic a few times. I cut off the bead, pick out the worn bit, cut the elastic short and then tie it back on. Sheesh.
I should go to the fabric store and get some proper elastic.

The Dazzling Magic is the India version.
Be remembered for performing what looks like MAGIC, not skill.

Use my sceptre regularly to great laughs. I have the $5 version from India, and replaced the elastic with a visit to the local fabric store; it's lasted for months now. And I highly recommend the Ambitious Card's suede bag.
Can somebody tell me if the Practical Magic deluxe sceptre is the same diameter as the India version? Or is the 'deluxe' from a change to a cloth bag? |

I realize I'm kind of late to this thread, but will add that I usually perform for audiences under 7 years old and this is a great trick for them. Older kids enjoy it as well, but it's great for the younger kids because it's visual and doesn't need a lot of explanation. I thought the Terry Herbert "up the nose" bit was very funny, and include that in my routine as well.
I use the inexpensive India sceptre because, until reading this, I didn't realize there was another version out there. I've only ever seen the $5 ones. The first elastic lasted about 20 shows before it was no longer strong enough to move the sceptre quickly, but replacing it is possible. I'm curious to know what the difference between the inexpensive and the Practical Magic versions are. Anyway, I have devised a few different routines and use this trick in several of my shows - it's a small prop, easy to carry, and can easily get 4+ minutes of great comedy. |
