Gaffed, absolutely a great review. You have outlined the pros and the cons of this product. I, myself, have enjoyed this product.I think that this is the product of the year.
Yes it does require practice but as you said the rewards outnumber the cons. Try it, it works.

It would seem as though this effect has a love/hate relationship in some odd ways.
I'm not at all too sure about the earlier units as some of them may have indeed been faulty. Placing aside the obvious need for long sleeves and hooking it up it this is simply in one word..... awesome! I think that those who had problems with this simply gave up on it too soon. Not long after it hit the market there were those selling it on the site! I certainly can’t speak or address the few who may have had a faulty unit as it seems that perhaps there may have been some minor improvements made after it first came out but I’m not at all really sure. My unit has a sticker stating that it was inspected on 06/16/2010 so I imagine that it is among the later units produced, but again I’m not even sure if the unit has been changed in any way from the first ones. As for those who bought cheap knock offs on eBay from China I have no sympathy for you whatsoever. As the old adage goes; “You get what you pay for” and, you got just that! Always support the magician who produced and came up with whatever effect, and to do otherwise is not acceptable, but that’s just my opinion. To get back to those who shoved it aside because they said it doesn’t work, and then claimed it was stupid and a waste of money, and or sold it because of that, it is your loss. Any good effect, albeit not all, needs practice. However, I’ll be the first to admit that when it comes to card effects, no matter how mind boggling they may be, that needs hours of practice I simply stay away from them. This also applies to many coin effects also. I’ve got a bit of arthritis in my right hand and at times I’m lucky I can even shuffle a deck of cards. But, then again I’ve never been a card flicker and about the only thing I can handle is an Elmsley count. (Where oh where would John Bannon be without that devious little move! lol) Sorry, I was only joking and couldn’t pass that by. John is very talented and I did some card work for him years ago when I used to make gaffed cards and, ergo the name: “gaffed”! To get back on track, by all means work on this if you feel it can’t be done. It can be DONE! Each person has a different physiology i.e. fat, thin, bone density, etc. as it pertains to ones fingers. It makes no difference whatsoever. Play around with it and continue to do so. At first I found out that it worked when I placed the bolt between my thumb and middle finger but I wanted to use my forefinger. One good hint is to clench your other fingers into your palm until you get used to it and find that aforementioned “sweet spot”. Once I found it the first thing that came to mind was a scene from the original “Frankenstein” movie. “It’s alive, it’s alive, it’s alive!” lol DON’T give up on it!

That's what I did. The remote switch is unneccessary, adds considerably to set-up, and is impractical to wear if you're going out and about. Without it, the set-up is very quick, and the performance is unaffected. Since this modification, I've used mine a lot more. It is one of the BEST effects I've ever seen. This gets reactions that will have you chuckling every time you use it! It's CRUELLY deceptive, and the method is just plain SNEAKY! It is quite a tough effect to follow though. :) |

I showed this to a friend who bought it immediately and completely modified it to work over his closeup table (reed switch). In this manner he wears it all the time and is much quicker to get into and out of since everything is above board so to speak.

I think it will be interesting to see what they come up for Version 2
The sad thing that all knock offs show a similar gimmick and a kid explains it on youtube saying he has Leo's permission. The access to the core method is too close to the real version to make me want to hold onto it. Also it was not silent for me. I did fine a way to quite it with a tennis elbow brace that had a gel pack in it. It help quiet it but was too bulky for my tastes. After I heard that the earliest units had a different design that made more sense to me, I just did not want to devote the time to trying to fiddle with this figuring the creator will be eventually coming out with an improved version since he will have more cash and a ton of suggestions. I will say it works as it should. It is clever and was worth it before LuChen performed it and then let the HK pirates market it. Ebay is no help there. But for me, in a quite room. I could hear it so I am not sure why they can not. I am sure it is in part because I know what to hear but I still think that for a room without any ambient noise, it was too risky for my tastes. The point I would hear the most is after nut falls off and you stop. Or if you make the nut start and stop I would hear the difference and love the idea so much I was not willing to risk it being exposed. The lack of freedom to when you can do this also was a turn off. But if you are looking at it as another prop to set and it for a performance only days not impromptu days, and you are working outside or in a busier environment you will probably love it and not have the issue I had. If Leo wants to contact me I have some ideas on what I did not like and what V2 would be good to have. |

If this has been exposed on You Tube, so what? None of the many folks I've shown it to have any clue how it works. Perhaps one or two teenagers might get home after seeing this, and decide to trawl the internet to discover the solution. This is absolutely no problem. Anyone who ever wanted to know how a trick works has always been able to uncover the secret with enough digging. Most people are far too busy for that stuff.
As to the talking issue, well, I suggest you refrain from performing this one in very quiet environments. I have a lot of close-up magic in my repertoire. I choose my effects according to the situation I find myself in. I can see that for the amateur or part-time performer, this may require too much constant practise and may rarely be an appropriate choice of effect. Those who work full-time will undoubtedly get loads of mileage out of it. Yes, it's an effect for working professionals. In any bar, restaurant, party, or other situation where professionals are normally required to perform, the ambient noise will EASILY cover the (fairly quiet) noise generated by Ultracinese. This really is one of those effects that is beyond belief. Performed well, your audiences will be either screaming in disbelief, or reduced to stunned silence. As for patter - well, this really doesn't need much in the way of clever patter. Use your standard gags, and simply perform the effect. Too much patter can only detract from such an awesome illusion. Truly, Ultracinese (done well) will have folks talking about you for weeks and months afterwards - and for sure, they will NEVER forget the unbelievable stunt you pulled on them. I don't think there's a lot of effects that can parallel this - it's more incredible than even the cleverest sleight-of-hand moves. Potty |

Does anyone know the best place to buy the nuts and bolts in bulk? A link would be helpful as I went to a hardware store yesterday with no joy in finding the right nut and bolt for the effect.
Thanks |

Hi Christopher,
I got a bulk load from TLC. Here is a link for their Branch Location page. http://www.tlc-direct.co.uk/information/branches/default.htm You can order from their web site, ring and order from a branch or visit the store and pick them up. Always best to check that they have enough in stock. I use Brass M4 hex nut and Pan Head Bolt which works well for me. Hope that this helps Mike |
