Yes but when the state is against you then the state is favourite to win the game. The state picks a side, that suites them at the time, and then the state plays dirty. Not long ago it suited the state to attack the warm camp. When the boot was on the other foot it was the warm camp who were explaining how corrupted science was, or rather how the politicians were twisting everything and using dirty tricks. Now the state is with them, they say its all squeaky clean. The whole thing is as bent as a cork screw.

“The Union of Concerned Scientists has documented an egregious series of cases in which the White House shaped science to conform to its political goals: e.g., at the administration's request, the Environmental Protection Agency altered a report on climate change; the White House concealed research on the devastating impact of mercury on fetal development while Congress debated legislation dealing with power plant emissions; Cabinet secretaries replaced independent scientists with industry representatives on advisory committees dealing with environmental and public health issues. In follow-up remarks, E.O. Wilson scorned this "perversion of science." He said, "Science is not a religion, not an ideology, not a lobby intent on turning Washington around. It's simply the best method hit upon...to acquire knowledge about the real world."
That was the warm camp speaking a few years back when the Bush state was against them apparently. http://mitworld.mit.edu/video/191ide

None of which successfully addresses the bottom line:
To what degree does human activity contribute to global warming, and what will be the consequences, in what time frame?

Everyone seems to forget that we have safely and sucessfully run a Naval Fleet not to mention countless Submarines using Nuclear power plants. Not safe? Says who? Hollyhwood?

Hey Doug everybody knows that the Navy is hiding the terrible terrible horrors that must go hand in hand with nuclear power. They have a special super secret allotment to pay for the cover up.

Let's raise a glass to the memory of the US men who died due to malfunctions on The Triton, The Thresher, The Scorpion, and the nuclear aircraft carrier Enterprise.
And pour some vodka for the Russian crews of the K-27, The K-8, The K-219, the K-141 and the Komsomolets as well. Sorry no movies about those; only actual occurrences.

Mechanical failures, Torpedo explosions, collisions and lousy Russian workmanship and maitainence can hardly condem the Nuclear Power plants on American vessels.
Lets condem the V-8 because a tire blew out.

Hmmm aside from huge amounts of hot air due to uniformed blathering, and perhaps some short term carbon emissions - not much that won't go away on its own in short term geologic time IMHO.
but to watch ecology used as an excuse for regressive taxation is just ... sad. The use of nuclear weapons to both remove the energy demand side of the problem and add plenty of solar reflective dust remains both obvious, cost effective and ready to go at a moments notice.

Nuclear Weapons (which explode) and Nuclear Power Plants (which do not explode and are basically high tech Steam Engines) are hardly the same animal. Both are successful, One is SAFE.
