How long do you like to fold your silk fountain before show time? I know the closer to the time of the show the better, but that is not always possible. I have not left my silk fountains folded for more than an hour before opening them. I am wondering if I can go longer. Because of the nature of the silk fountain I am afraid it will take too much 'spring' out of the silks if I leave it folded too long. And of course I am sure the wrinkles will be worse.

I would like to hear some opinions on this.

Thanks!

I general fold mine between 30 to 60 minutes before show time.
I'm sure you could experiment, then get back to us Smile

A lot of it will depend on the momme of the silks and the number of silks.

I have always used 8 momme silks. They have more spring than 6 momme. I would fold it up two or three days ahead of time when I could. That would make it open nice and slow. Last year at Abbott's, I folded it up the night before and it was fine. I just did not fold it up as tight and small. You can always speed up the fountain by clawing the silks from underneath. But you cannot slow them down.

I know Dale Salwak uses 6 momme silks (I made them) and I have watched him fold the silks the afternoon of a show that night at Abbotts.

The wrinkles do not matter. They don't show usually onstage.

Hope that helps. It is hard to describe how tight or loose to pack the silk. It is a feel thing for each fountain based on the silk weight and numbers

Yes, thanks Richard! I was hoping I could at least try folding mine the night before the show. If you are successfully going 2-3 days before the show that makes me feel better!

I always do mine the night before the show. If I have two shows in a row, I leave it out of the second one.

Mine are always ready to go when I load the car.

I do recommend storage in a Zip-Lock bag rather than a paper envelope.

I usually fold 3 hours before my show but I notice that if I fold the night before for a next day practice session the bloom is nice and slow and fluffy. (I have 3 sets of 6 silks in three sizes in 8 momme for a total of 18 silks.) It makes me think I should fold earlier.

Thanks for bringing it up Regan. Thanks to hugmagic also. If three days works for him over night should be a good experiment at a show.

But in a pinch, you can fold it looser and get a slow bloom.

My set is 15- 36" silks to a 72" all in 8 momme just for reference.

Richard,
I do production of an 18" which I have a 36" in the center, then I have a 36" which I have a 6'x6' dragon in the center of it. May I shoot some photo's of my folds and would you review them? I also wanted to share a fold with you that was shown to me by a silk mfg. (that's out of business now) and get some feedback on that too.

Sure just send me reasonable sized files to my email at hugmagic@raex.com.

Regan,
Do you have copy of my product CD? The silk fountain is on it.

Richard, I do not think I have a copy of your CD. I remember you sending some business cards when I last ordered from you, and I still have those. However, I do not remember the CD. I am sure I would have watched it.....unless it somehow got misplaced by one of the females in my house. Smile
