There are so many good effects for iPhone, are there any out there for the Blackberry phone?

I turned my Blackberry into a handful of blackberries for a presentation last year - I got the gigs but don't recommend it.

There are some very freaky things you can do with a BlackBerry.
No commercial effects like the iphone, but there are very freaky things that can be done ;-) D. |

Does iphone still have the market cornered? My contract is up in July and plan on buying an iphone, but you mean to tell me that no other phone can do card tricks and make money appear?

Ken, card tricks can even be done on traditional phones (my favorite source for these: Impuzzibilities and Further Impuzzibilities). However, as far as a developer base for smartphone apps goes, Apple still leads the pack.

Here's a breakdown of apps per device. It's a no-brainer which device is the most popular and why developers are drawn what is literally a gold rush. And besides, Cocoa is a very elegant and powerful language with which to program.

Scott, It looks like iPhone apps have gone up about 300%, but Android apps have gone up 500% in the same time frame. And also, it looks like iPhone apps got to 50K in 2 years (launched in mid 2007), and Android isn't too far behind at 30K in under 2 years (launched end of 2008). So I guess we should be focusing on Android apps after iPhone ones, certainly not Palm or Blackberry.
Note that I have adapted a trick to be used on Android, it's just not an exactly an app, but uses one of the available apps in a card routine. |

While I agree that on a strictly percentage basis, yes, it did shoot up, but let's see what happens in the next year as things start to mature. My prediction is iPhone will still be light years ahead in one or even two years.
The problem with Android is that there are lots of issues surrounding it. For example, Google has released the 2.1 Android OS, but I believe the only phone with that current version is Google's own Nexus One. Motorola's Droid has v. 2.0. And the Sony Ericsson will ship with 1.6! The scary thing is many carriers are NOT allowing upgrades since they (the carriers) are acting as middlemen. ( source) This locks out certain new features (like turn by turn navigation) in the newer upgraded OS to customers who CAN'T upgrade due to their carrier's restrictions. This also means, that as a developer, you have no clue what version of the OS consumers have, or what "version" of each version. Some are tweaked by handset makers due to physical keyboards, or various hardware buttons. It's a nightmare when compared to the elegance of the iPhone/iPod Touch/iPad family. That's why I have NO interest in programming for Android or any other mobile OS. |
