I believe Paolo is talking about Gods with Feet of Clay Vol 4 which has a great impromptu color separation idea.

This is a difficult routine to perform. Not difficult technically, but difficult to sell the skill to your audience. The routine is designed to cause a spectator to genuinely believe that you can see with your fingertips...it is not a magic trick, it is a demonstration of a strange ability you possess. If you want to perform magic "tricks" then this routine is not for you. Because the routine is designed as a demonstration, the notion of separating reds and blacks makes perfect sense, and it's the number of times you are correct that is what makes it amazing. Yes, if you were to do it once it is a 50% chance, which is not impressive. When you get 10-15 cards in a row, without peeking and with cards that can be examined...that is simply amazing. Again, this is a difficult routine to sell to your audience. It will take work on your part to figure out how you're going to present this so that the spectators view it as a demonstration of dermoptic vision and not as a cute magic trick.
with all that said, I see this becoming one of my favourite effects to perform...it's already one of my favourite to rehearse. |
