Mick:
Everything's going well at the Sands Resorts in Myrtle Beach, SC, as I present my comedy magic show Tuesday-Saturday evenings. I do a little balloon twisting as well to promote the show. It's always fun to return to our old "stomping grounds"-- you should bring the girls up for a visit! I'll return to Orlando after Labor Day. Carl |

Which kind of balloons (160, 260...) are used in this DVD, which skill level is needed to use the content fully and how much time do you need making one model?

And another one:
On the website of the DVD you see the face of Goofy. Is this character included in Volume 1? http://www.skenesentertainment.com/BalloonDVD.html |

The balloon creations on Volume 1 use 260's. Knowledge of basic balloon twisting skills is required.
Goofy will be featured on Volume 2; Pluto is on Volume 1-- as are Mickey, Minnie & Ariel. Carl's work is not geared toward line work/speed twisting... but with practice, most characters can be completed in a fairly short amount of time. From Carl in an earlier post: Quote:
Volume 2 is still being edited, and we hope to have it ready soon. Thanks for all the positive comments. Tina http://www.skenesentertainment.com/BalloonDVD.html

Hey Tina,
thank you very much for your answer. Will there be a bundle price for Volume 1 + 2? If so I would wait buying them together! |

We have not yet set the price for Volume 2, so we can’t offer a bundle at this time; however, once it is released, we will discount the 2nd volume if you ordered Volume 1. Just e-mail us before placing your order.

I have purchased very few balloon DVD's, in spite of the fact that I built part of my reputation on twisting. This being said, Carl Skenes work in AMAZING. He is a great performer, but more important to this forum, a great teacher. I just picked up this shirt at WDW. I wonder where they got the idea??

Wow! Thanks for the compliments!
A co-worker returns to the office after a shopping trip @ Epcot. "Just saw a t-shirt that made me think of you. It had a balloon Mickey on it. I wondered who made the 'model'. Knew it couldn't have been Carl, because HIS looks better." True story. Tina

Hey Guys!
Just wanted to add my 2 cents. As just about everybody has already said, this DVD really is great. Anybody who is looking to entertain with balloons and not just crank out sculpture after sculpture to the never ending line owes it to themselves to order this DVD ASAP. I've been looking for a workable "boy" mouse for a while. There are a bunch of designs out there. Some are good, some are horrible. The thing I particularly like about Carl's is that it is able to be done in a reasonable amount of time (15-18 minutes). Carl's design can also be done outside. So many of the Mouse design out there just can't be done out in the heat because they pop. Carl's design can take the heat. Finally, it looks GREAT! This is just the thing I've been looking for for quite some time. For you guys out there looking to draw a crowd in order to start a show (magic, juggling, or otherwise), nothing works better than building an elaborate balloon sculpture like the ones featured in this DVD. I've been doing it for years in a festival and busking environment and it works like gangbusters! There is only one problem with the DVD... Now we have to wait for the second one to come out! Hopefully it won't be too long! So come on Tina...tell us when we can order the next one! I need a good workable, crazy dog! :0) |

Thank you So much for your kind words. It's obvious that you GET IT! Volume 2 is currently being edited; Carl is scheduled to film an introduction for Volume 2 (on December 29) and once that is added, everything will go to the publisher. It won't be long now! Thanks again for your positive comments. Merry Christmas! Tina Skenes

Carl recently was featured in a Blog/Review. I found it to be an enjoyable "read". I hope you will, too.
Giordano's and the Balloon Artistry of Carl Skenes jr. Posted on December 16th, 2010 Written by Jason Bean On our first night in Kissimmee, my family had spent the majority of the day at Kennedy Space Center, a quick jaunt to Cocoa Beach and Ron Jon's Surf Shop and then a short drive into Kissimmee to check-in to our hotel, the Comfort Suites Maingate. After checking into our hotel, we needed a bite to eat and we were all hungry. My wife updated her Facebook status and asked for recommendations on pizza in Kissimmee and a couple of people responded and suggested Giordanos Pizza. They said there was one close to an Arby's but we really had no idea where it would be. Much to our luck and surprise, when we pulled into our hotel we noticed an Arby's and wouldn't you know it, a Giordanos Pizza right next door! Our plan for our trip was to try not to eat at any chain restaurants we had available to us in Indianapolis, so we were starting off very well! We weren't disappointed at all with our pizza. It was a Chicago style deep-dish, our hotel had a coupon for a free garlic bread appetizer and some Cokes for everyone made the meal a nice and filling treat for everyone! My daughter wasn't keen on having pizza, so she even got some good pasta and marinara for her meal. Shortly before we were halfway through with our pizza, a balloon artist came up to our table and started talking to us. To be honest my first thought was, Great! Now I've got to watch this guy make some kind of balloon animal and give him a couple of bucks because my kids will want something. Boy was I surprised! It turns out the artist's (and I do mean ARTIST!) name was Carl Skenes, Jr., and he was by far the most talented balloon magician I've ever seen in my life! Check out what he created for us in a matter of minutes! Carl was an absolute delight to talk to that evening. We talked about raising kids these days and how itis different from when he was raising his own kids. What our favorite Disney films were and what films we've shared with our kids as we've grown up. It turns out he's done quite a bit of work around the area and even developed and hosted a character at Disney Hollywood Studios Animation Courtyard called Andy Mation, that entertained guests at the parks and toured as a Disney ambassador. As I visited Carl's website, Skenes Entertainment, I also found out that Carl Skenes is one of a tiny number of people who has done the bullet catch in his mouth. He did it in the 1980's on a show I absolutely loved called That's Incredible! Carl didn't mention this during our conversation at all! When youare in Kissimmee and looking for a great meal, stop on into Giordanos Pizza and cross your fingers that Carl will be there doing his balloon artistry. http://i.seekissimmee.com/2010/12/16/gio......enes-jr/ (Pics on the website)

I am pleased to announce that "Animated Art of Balloons", Volume 2, was released today! The DVD includes instructions for: a silly dog (with an uncanny resemblance to Goofy), two cool ducks (resembling Donald & Daisy), a wise-cracking dragon (similar to Mushu), and a hyper dog (looks like Odie). It also features a short informative interview with Carl.
To order directly from the publisher, go to: http://kunaki.com/MSales.asp?PublisherId=122304&PP=1 To purchase both volumes as a discounted "bundle", contact me - Tina@Skenesentertainment.com.
