I was horrified to find that the Café search brought up absolutely nothing on this vulnerable subject Does anyone know anything about this form of divination or perhaps has even practiced it? What are your feelings about using leaves for making a reading? I know that large seeds and coconuts pieces can be used but I had never heard of leaves being used to obtain a reading (except for tea leaves that is!).

There's another palm (?) leaves reading among the diviners of West Africa: the Mambila Spider divination.

Thanks for that Curator-I especially enjoyed the 'Spider Divination Simulation'!.
That is a very interesting way of perceiving 'chance' -via a living intermediary.Wonder if it works with badgers or bush elephants (!) I have created my own less exotic system using a simple twelve sided die.A first roll gives the area of relevance, the second roll the actual outcome. Each 'dual roll' therefore provides one with 144 chance variables.I structure the reading through mentally keeping to a 'Celtic Cross' tarot card 'layout' psychology with ten 'dual rolls' (20 rolls in all) taking place. At the moment I am still relying on the crib sheet to interpret!!! |

Usually, the animal represents some trickster in a local myth. Like the pale fox, the spider, the crab (have you ever watched a crab diviner, very unusual. he sometimes uses the crab as a telephone), the rabbit, mouse (baule), birds, crocodile...
The animal brings the messages to and from the gods. |
