I`ve never had the change to work with the Nest of Gecko. There will be 2 new gimmicks included with the new DVD: The G.T. gimmick and the Gecko Quick. The Gecko Quick has the same task as the Nest of Gecko. I don`t know which is better because like I said, I`ve never tried the Nest of Gecko. The G.T. gimmick has nothing in common with the Nest. The Nest allows you to store the Gecko so that you can secretly steal it whenever during a performance (you`re not forced to have it ready from the start). The G.T. gimmick allows you to smoothly transform one small item into another (or sometimes more than one item into more than one, one item into more than one, etc.). You can view my video of the G.T. gimmick here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wai4t-efObk
That`s a realistic view of what the G.T. gimmick can achieve. Obviously I`m not dropping anything out of frame or what not because I`m using the Gecko. The only reason I`m down on my computer tower is because at the time that was the only way to get a close shot of the magic otherwise you wouldn`t have seen anything because it would have been too far away. Hope this helped |

I bought mine geckofor almost 2 years ...and I have never
actually perform with it, because I also find its kinda hard to use (maybe it just me) .. the noise..the angle .. with the new upgrade, is it going to make any difference? but If anyone is interested in buying a Gecko, PM me if you want

I purchased Raven, I purchased Black Widow. Now I read about Gecko for the first time and hope some one can give these products a reasonable comparison.
Anyone?

The Raven does not have this capability. The Raven is much cheaper for almost the same thing though.. The Gecko: works almost exactly like the Raven except it can vanish anything small that is m*gnetic or not m*gnetic. The Gecko does not work well with vanishing large objects due to noise and flutter as it vanishes. It would be advised to use a top*t or a servante for vanishing larger objects. The price is high for this gimmick. (Update: the new "Extreme" DVD shows material you can already do with the Raven. Methods of course, may be different) The Kohler/Fitch holdout: It limits your body movements and attachments are very expensive (coin attachment). The holdout action is slick as wet ice though. The price is the most expensive on this list but the apparatus is quality. Finally, I use none of these as they are a bit impractical for myself due to set-ups, attachments to arms, and not being able to take your coat off. I recommend the humble top*t for vanishing objects into your jacket if you agree with my cons. You can take your jacket off and Ammar has some work where the attachment comes off in a second. Also, Michael has a great top*t pattern you can show your tailor.

The main advantage of the Gecko is that you can use it to vanish and transform (with the help of the G.T. gimmick) objects that are not ferrom******c.
The main advantage of the Raven is that you can just wave your hand over an object and it vanishes or in some cases transforms. The main advantage of the Black Widow is that you can vanish, produce and transform items. Sounds like the best but it has its downsides. Bulky and when you're hooked up you have restricted movement. |

That makes the concept completely useless for anyone that doesn't already own one. Hopefully someone will come up with a knockoff soon, since Kohler doesn't seem interested in supplying the real thing. I don't believe in buying knockoffs, but will certainly make an exception when production of the original has permanently ceased.

To receive honest reviews we would have to buy into the premise that the DVD will convince us to take the Gecko out of our junk drawer and actually make use of it. I think most of us feel we have spent enough on it already. Here's an idea, but it would mean that you would have to put customer satisfaction first and not the almighty dollar. You could offer the DVD for free to those who originally bought the Gecko upon proving that they did buy the original Gecko. Perhaps you could get the thousands of Youtube "magicians" to write a review of it, but I don't know how much wieght Youtube "magicians" opinions have. I have no doubt some have found use of the Gecko, but lets face it, if it was actually a good functional gimmick, would we need a new DVD and extra gimmicks to make it work better, and correct the problems of the original Gecko that most found with it? I did a search of Gecko reviews using Google, and I couldn't honestly find a lot of good reviews about it, but I did find some. I agree with your statement that the Gecko isn't for everyone, and I am simply just one person with an opinion, but there is nothing to convince me to spend more money on the Gecko only to take a chance to find out that I wasted more money. It I did put more money on the Gecko and it happened to convince me to pull the gecko out of my junk drawer, the total cost for it will have ranged around or above $100. That's just not exceptable for me to spend that kind of money on it. [/quote] I have had the privillage of testing driving the Gecko tail and one of Patricks new handlings prior to release. If you like the gecko I think this would be a must have item for you. If you don't like the gecko I doubt it will change your mind to much. I haven't seen the new dvd so can't comment on the whole package being worth it for sure. If using the gecko feels physically uncomfortable for you this won't change that. This is one of those device people seem to either love or hate.

Sure some still won't like it or won't care about the Gecko after watching the new dvd, but I think that if you didn't like it before, it's probably because of certain main things that kept coming up over and over again. I have no idea how much of my contributions they put into the dvd, but I contributed ALOT of useful stuff that would make the Gecko infinitely easier to use in the real world. The only problem that would remain would be the reproduction of the borrowed item, which let's face it, isn't important because you don't have to borrow items. Besides, who wants to vanish someone's cellphone? It's the same risk as performing Ring Flight with a reel. It can crash to the floor and you're in trouble. Stick to borrowing items that you easily have dupes of like coins, bills, etc. The G.T. gimmick accomplishes more than you all think. It has built-in advantages other than just transforming. When I receive my copy of the dvd, I will be sure to describe the issues that the Gecko Extreme dvd fixes from the original Gecko. I'm not sure right now what the dvd fixes because I have no idea what exactly they chose to include. From that list of fixed issues, you can decide if your issue(s) have been fixed or not and so whether you are interested in buying the package or not. |

Um, we all did as that was the very first item vanished in the original demo! No reviews yet because no-one wants to be the first to be burnt again I suspect. Plus it's another $45-50. And not available in the UK. |

Yes,
No one will be fooled twice.... It's very terrible item. I prefer using pull. The idea of gecko is only the using of bl** t**k so you could st**k anything to make it vanish. |

Lots of people have bought this. The problem is, it`s exclusive to Ellusionist so it seems as though only E customers are buying this, meaning they`re mostly young magicians who don`t frequent the Magic Café. Just my guess. No reviews doesn`t mean nobody bought the thing.
UncleBunkle, if your cell phone comment was about what I said, please understand that I mentioned you shouldn`t vanish a cell phone because it could drop on the floor and break it. People who own the Gecko know that this is a possibility. Nobody got fooled into buying anything. If you like the Gecko, and there ARE magicians who like it, then you`ll benefit from the new DVD. If you think the Gecko is simply what you said, well now it`s more than that. There is also the G.T. gimmick attached to it and you have the Gecko Quick to steal it at a moment`s notice. Buy it or don`t buy it, we don`t need people constantly saying how bad it is. Some people like it and that`s who'se buying the Gecko Extreme. There`s nothing wrong with the gimmick, it`s just not for everyone. Takes a lot of practice too. Here`s what I think, and this is just my personal opinion, which is also based on my experience with the Gecko. There are three groups to this: 1- Those who love the Gecko because they received it and realized that it`s a piece of cake to just vanish items on webcam with music playing with no skill required. 2- Those who hate the Gecko because they see it as too much work to get it to be quiet, get the angles right, etc. or who think it`s just not a good gimmick. 3- Those who like/love the Gecko because they took enough time to work with it and get it down so that it`s actually useable and not a bad gimmick. |

$50 bucks for a DVD and some accessories seems kind of steep. Nice marketing job though. I agree that it seems more geared to getting the kids lunch money

Patrick - My point was that the original demo featured a phone vanish & although we now all know it's not wise because you can't get it back straight away & it could be damaged, it was still a major reason for buying it. I'm sure many who purchased it feel the same. Phones are everywhere so it was always gonna be cool if you could just borrow one & vanish it. The fact that it's not really practical leaves us feeling duped by the ad & therefore it's no suprise to find we are reluctant to throw more money at it. Especially as it's not in the UK anywhere which can mean extra custom charges. Do you know why the gecko was available everywhere but gecko extreme is restricted to two sites in the US?

I now see there's also a Gecko Flash you can buy. Makes a bright white light as the item vanishes. Does this work with Gecko Extreme?

Does anyone notice and wonder why on the video, the angle's of the camera always from the top?
I thought it is very weird and after I bought it and then I knew why.... but it's too late... I'm trapped... Too bad... |
