Just wanted to let you know that the great David Acer will be lecturing for
S.A.M. Assembly 23 (Washington, DC) on Wednesday, May 19, 2010 at 8:00 P.M. Please mark your calendars. Admission is free for SAM members and $20 for non-members. Info on David's lecture follows:

David Acer lecture in Washington D.C.
Wednesday, May 19, 8:00 PM
National Press Club, 529 14th Street, 13th Floor
Presented by S.A.M. Assembly 23

David Acer is a Gemini-award-nominated writer, magician and comedian who has
done crazy things on dozens of television shows around the world, like
protesting outside a train station dressed as a giant penny while inviting
people to lie down on the tracks to “see how it feels,” and limping to the
couch for a talkshow interview with a Denver Boot on his leg because, as he
put it, he had “a few unpaid j-walking tickets.”
He has appeared on a multitude of international specials (Sky One's The
Secret World of Magic, NHK Japan's F.I.S.M. 2000, Discovery's Grand
Illusions), a plethora of Canadian classics (CBC's Just For Laughs, CTV's
Comedy Now, CHCH's Comedy at Club 54), and an array of American prime-time
standards (A&E's Comedy on the Road, ABC's America's Funniest People), not
to mention live at The Magic Castle in Hollywood and F.I.S.M. in Portugal.
But younger viewers (and insomniacs) are more likely to recognize him as
“Doubting Dave” on Discovery Kids' Mystery Hunters, which garnered him two
Gemini nominations (the Canadian equivalent of the Emmys) for Best Writing
in a Children's Non-Fiction Series, and a spin-off book deal with Kids Can
Press.
David has also been performing, inventing and publishing original close-up
magic for over 25 years, beginning in 1984 with Perfect Magic's release of
his popular coin-through-deck routine, Quartermain. In 1990, David teamed up
with The Camirand Academy to release Nomen Omen, now regarded as one of the
most clever versions of the classic “name deck” available. He has also
written three critcally-acclaimed books of original effects (Natural
Selections, Natural Selections II and Random Acts of Magic), marketed a
handful of best-selling tricks (Nomen Omen, Spare Change, Swiss Pack,
Deadlock), and had material published in just about every major magic
magazine in the world, including Apocalypse, M.U.M., France's Arcane,
England's MagicSeen, The Magic Menu, The Linking Ring, MAGIC, and Richard
Kaufman's Genii, where he's been a columnist since 2002, and now writes the
Magicana section.

This lecture will consist of selections from many of these sources and
feature powerful, practical close-up for the intermediate to advanced
magician, plus a demonstration of David's uncanny ability to change four
nickels into four dimes merely by covering them with a small brass cap.
