I'm looking for a book or a dvd to learn to learn how to use conversational hypnosis. I'm confident with my ability to hypnotize in a traditional way but I am also curious about conversational hypnosis. Any suggestions?
P.S. I was wondering if conversational hypnosis is anything like NLP or Ericksonian hypnosis. Johnny |

HI Johnny,
A book called Patterns 1 by Bandler and Grinder needs to be on your shelf. Then Igor Ledochowski audio set will set you on your way. Yes most approaches to conversational hypnosis are characterized by the indirect multi level communication of Erickson. Erickson of course was not limited to this approach, however since the eighties it is what he has become most associated with. However I would argue that 'ericksonian hypnosis' includes much more than just indirect/covert suggestion. Anthony Anthony

I agree with Anthony. Good recommendations and the truth about the extent of Ericksonian hypnosis being far more than indirect/covert suggestion. I would add that conversational hypnosis is just one small part of NLP.
You say you're "confident with my ability to hypnotize in a traditional way." Does that mean you've actually hypnotized dozens or hundreds of people? I know I wasn't confident until I had done that. My advice remains the same: take a training. Use books and DVDs to support and extend what you learn in the training. I hate it when someone says, "Trust me," but Johnny, trust me, everything about hypnosis will be much easier and you'll feel much more confident if you take a training. Reading about something or observing it is NOT the same as participating. I see by his sig that Anthony is giving courses in the UK (for my fellow Americans, Derby is pronounced "dahr-bee" not "dur-bee"). If you're near London or Deerby you might take his trainings. Most major cities offer training in hypnosis. Get in touch with organizations such as the National Guild of Hypnotists or the American Board of Hypnotherapy to see if they have a trainer offering classes near you. If you're in L.A., there's even a group that will train you for free. |
