This ad campaign has been getting a lot of play up in my parts these days.

Basically, Tropicana created an artificial sun in Inuvik in order to "brighten the morning" one day during the lengthy period of 24 hour darkness up there. They also gave away cartons of free juice to the more or less 1,300 residents (juice up in Inuvik normally costs about $12-$13 a carton).

"The 30- and 60-second spots document the raising of a 36-foot wide helium balloon on January 9, 2010 in the dark mid-morning sky over Inuvik's Jim Koe Park. With curious residents looking on, the balloon illuminated the dark sky, emitting roughly the same amount of light provided by the sun. The Tropicana brand's 'sunrise' coincided with Inuvik's annual Sunrise Festival, which celebrates the return of sunlight after weeks of relative darkness."

"The helium-filled orb emitted 100,000 lumens, roughly the light output of the bright sun on a clear day, which lit up a radius of about four kilometres."

That was pretty good. Sometimes the expressions on the faces of real people works a treat.
