And I sold magic DVDs at a booth. It was an experiment and I did a ton of performing at the booth. It was fun but at the end of the day it was not super profitable. The main reason was because there were almost no men at the psychic fair and women don't buy magic DVDs especially at a psychic fair. Funny thing is MANY people said I gave them the most accurate readings they have ever had. It was hard for many of them to stomach the fact that I was a magician.

Hello,
I am also planing to go to a psyhic fair to work on my readings and to practice. Answer me this please, why did you sell magic DVDs at a psyhic fair? May I ask what system or systems you work with in giving reading? Ray |

One of my best friends, who is now a world class hypnotist, started doing readings by going to a psychic fair. He bought Lee Earle's Classic Readings and only learned about four or five of the stock paragraphs. He was the hit of the fair. The guy that put the fair together hired him to do a private reading.
It was real funny when it happened because he was just going to go there to practice saying the stuff and found that it was hitting like crazy even though he kept repeating the same thing. Greg

The reason I did the fair was because I had nothing better to do and I wanted to see how the paper crane stuff would among an audience of believers. Our stuff especially universal Impression and Technique went over really well. Even though I was doing "magic" and saying I was doing magic people were asking me stuff like when did I get my "gift". I did quick based on the info I got from the impression device I was using and I was using. Basically it's a bunch of really nice hippies and women that are into oprah so a lot of people are into the same stuff so it's easy. I highly recommend draw me a tree by rudy hunter my frien and fellow Café member does this and they are fun and very accurate. The best part about them is they are psychological reading so you don't have to pretend to be anything your not.

Ted,
You did real good from the sound of it. Magic was a no-go with that group, nothing to be done about that. Your choice of "Draw Me a Tree" for your readings was a wonderful decision. I never considered it for a psychic fair...still wouldn't do it myself in that venue but that is just a personal decision. I love the reading system and have had great feedback when used in other social settings. Tree drawing is a very nice psychological reading that would fit many magician's well. Will you do another fair? If so what will you do differently (if anything)? |

Re. the whole psychic fayre arena - have you ever tried reading tarot for real? It's surprisingly illuminating, with no cold reading, no tricks, no ******** - just reading the patterns / images / layouts etc. and making some meaningful sense of apparent randomness. I believe that divination is simply the art of 'seeing' and expressing what one sees. All the time we're stumbling across synchronicities - accidental coincidences that seem to thrown light on our lives. The more I do 'performance magic' the more I notice these little moments of natural magic. They are like glimpses into a magical universe and I am learning to trust them - even if they are simply to add a little sparkle to everyday life. Most magicians a 99% skeptical - I was myself. This is sad, we have the ability to bring wonder to others, and (if we see where our own magic is symbolically pointing) we can even use it to re-enchant ourselves.

When one reads Tarot, one must always apply the correct meaning to the card. People that come for readings are frequently already familiar with the cards. Use cold reading to give an insight to the cards relevance and you have a winner. If you are older and wiser just use your life experience and gut instinct and you'll be surprisingly successfull. It works for me (either that or I've got the gift, LOL)

If anyone wants to venture more into psychics and witches and etc. you can look for Wiccan festivals and other spiritual nonsense meetings.

Congratulations (I guess) on being a successful fraud and for denigrating spirituality that is meaningful and important to many people.
Maybe next you could start up a prayer circle or a meditation group, or perhaps attend and inter-faith conference ---don't forget to bring you magic DVDs. Quote:
and other spiritual nonsense meetings. Way to denigrate a spirituality that is important and meaningful for many people. What gives such intelligence and insight into the universe to make such a blanket dismissal? Quote:

Lol this is the magic Café forums in the mentalism section correct? I'm sure 99% of people here know there is no such thing as real psychics, fortune tellers and what not. Why do you protect the people who profit from manipulating with gullible people?
P.S. Sure people have the "right" to believe in anything they want, and I have the "right" to say it's all mumble jumble. |

"I'm sure 99% of people here know there is no such thing as real psychics, fortune tellers and what not."
I am humbled by your omniscience. I happy for you that you know so much. (that was meant sarcastically, it's obvious I know, but occasionally things don't come through in print). "Why do you protect the people who profit from manipulating with gullible people? " I don't, but even cynics agree that most readers are sincere. Very few readers, especially in the neo-pagan community are frauds. If you think they are deluded or gullible so be it, but that does not make them frauds. Readers can and do make positive differences is peoples lives and neo-pagan spirituality is a meaningful, helpful and positive influence in the lives of many. Why would you denigrate that simply because it does not match your worldview? "and I have the "right" to say it's all mumble jumble." ...and further more I have the right to think whatever I want of you for saying it. That's the logical conclusion of the 'rights' game. Or you could pull a George Carlin: -person: "I have the right to my opinion" -George Carlin: "Well, I have the right to MY opinion, and my opinion is that you don't have any rights."
