"Our task must be to free ourselves...by widening our circle of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature and its beauty."
-Albert Einstein

I came across the above quotation while perusing the internet, and it was just so pertinent to some of these discussions that I had to post it here. I think it demonstrates while all of the anthropogenic global warming proponents on this board who keep claiming that it's fine to kill puppies and kittens are clearly wrong.
"Torture doesn't work" lol
Guess they forgot to tell Bill Buckley.

"...as we reason and love, we are able to hope. And hope enables us to resist those things that would enslave us."

How does feeling compassion toward dinner make it feel better?

I imagine it doesn't. Animals aren't a part of my dinners, though.

Here's a song for you Lobo, courtesy of the Arrogant Worms.

John
The blood-dimmed tide is loosed, and everywhere
The ceremony of innocence is drowned;
The best lack all conviction, while the worst
Are full of passionate intensity.--Yeats

Not if you call it dinner. Try compassion beforehand.

As one cannibal said to the other--"Does this clown taste funny to you?"

There is more to that quote if your interested:

"A human being is a part of the whole, called by us "Universe," a part limited in time and space. He experiences himself, his thoughts and feelings as something separated from the rest - a kind of optical delusion of his consciousness. This delusion is a kind of prison for us, restricting us to our personal desires and to affection for a few persons nearest to us. Our task must be to free ourselves from this prison by widening our circle of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature in its beauty. Nobody is able to achieve this completely, but the striving for such achievement is in itself a part of the liberation and a foundation for inner security."

I like this quote a lot:

"Two things are infinite: the universe and human stupidity; and I'm not sure about the universe."
