The classic song is due for a change.
Make America Great Again! - Trump in 2020 ... "We're a capitalistic society. I go into business, I don't make it, I go bankrupt. They're not going to bail me out. I've been on welfare and food stamps. Did anyone help me? No." - Craig T. Nelson, actor.

I hope he changes his mind and records the new lyrics - I love that song and another version would give me variety when I play it on repeat.

Change his mind? I understood that he does indeed intend to change the lyrics.
BTW, that has always been one of my top favorite songs too. Lightfoot is a poet and a balladeer. He has a masterful way with words/lyrics. Ever heard his song "Spanish Moss?" I put him in the same category as Dan Fogleburg as having a marvelous gift for lyrics. Puts the crap they pass off nowadays as "music" to shame.

News today is that he'll change the lyrics in concert, but doesn't intend to record a new version with the updated lyrics.

That's a good compromise. Glad that he's on it.

Good thing, too, 'cause for a while, everybody thought Gordon was dead.
Good thing he heard his death announced on the radio and set the record straight. John

“Pointing the finger at “human error” prevented lawsuits against the boat's owners, Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance Co. of Milwaukee, or its operators, Oglebay Norton Corp.”
I don’t get that point. If it is a Peril of the Sea no one could blame its owners and its operators anyway, could they?
If there is a single truth about Magic, it is that nothing on earth so efficiently evades it.

Haunting song. Vindication never comes too late, it's good the crew has been cleared; everyone is entitled to a good name, even in death.
Peace and Godspeed.

Hopefully you mean everyone who is entitled...

My intent is not to hijack the thread, so, I'll leave it with: according to my belief, everyone has the right to a good name, even after death.
Peace and Godspeed.
Peace
