Hi guys and gals of the juggling world.
I know that asking what people charge is serious bad form, so I won't do that. What I am asking though is would it be of interest to jugglers if there was a set of guidelines for what to charge for particular venues. TV, theatre, festivals etc... I know this will be dependent on area and country, but I've been doing a lot of thinking about this recently because unfortunately I found that I'd seriously under cut a few other chaps for a TV gig without realising. I charged what felt to me like a good fee, however I've since found out that I was about 3-4 times lower than what I should've charged!!! Crazy eh? I honestly had no idea of what to charge. Now this wasn't a juggling gig, I'll have my escape artist hat on. But I'd like to build a set of guidelines that professional jugglers can go to so they don't end up making the same error as I did. Not only could I have earnt more, I may have set a president for future work. Not just for me, but also for others in the field. Not good I'm sure you'll agree. So what do you think? Any ideas on how to get something like this off the ground? Do you think it's even necessary? Am I just worry over nothing and just accept that I'm getting the fee I wanted? Thanks, Ros

I charge from $200 to $300 for a party, and generally about $150 per hour for walkaround, but all of my prices are negotiable, and if I can get more I will try like hell to do so.

Al,
Thanks for being so open on this subject. Most shy away, but I think it's important that pros talk about this stuff so we all get a fair price. How long are the parties you do? Your prices seem extremely fair. Personnally I think the following should be a good guide for minimum prices: 1 hour birthday/party - £90 2 hour birthday/party - £150 2 hour circus workshop - £150 Circus workshop in schools - £300 per day What do people think?

If this were "the little darlings" I would not even post, but we are friends here and my prices are average. I think that parties in the UK are a bit different than parties in the US, most parties I do are 45 minutes long. If the audience is 3 or 4 years old sometimes the parents ask for a 30 minute show. I do a lot of walkaround too usually for 2 to 4 hours. Most of them are $150 per hour, and if you want me for four hours I will do the second two hours for $125, but that is hard work. I have done walkaround for a much longer time in the past, but 4 is my limit at my age. I do scarf juggling workshops, parades, and company picnics in the Summer time, but there are too many variables for me to give you an average price.
