I hope this is a joke and untrue, but I was told that they are closing the show..
I love Lance Burtons Show and think that he's one of the greatest guys in magic. I have a close Vegas friend entertainer that called me with the news late last night. He said this would be all over the news soon.. Lance is a champ and will work again if he chooses to... Taylor

Really hope that's not true. If it is, I hope Lance gets something really soon that he's happy with.
Taylor your so right, Lance is one of the greatest guys. One time when I about to park behind the resort, I saw a lady's car broken down right in front of his backstage entrance, and the lady was looking confused under the hood. By the time I parked and walked back, Lance was under the hood going to work on it! And he had a show in a few hours! That was one of many great experiences driving up from SoCal to see shows. Had a couple non-magician friends with me on that trip, and I remember fondly as they went totally nuts during the dove act, and experienced true astonishment many times in the show. I had only met Lance briefly on a few occasions, and he had asked nice questions each time. Like many kids, I had told him how inspirational he was to me. During the meet and greet after this particular show, as my friends and I came up to get autographs and say hi, he greeted me with, "Nabil! Are these your friends from Redlands?" I just couldn't believe he could remember some wanna be magician kid's name and where he was from. He must have met a whole bunch of those every single day. By the way, just a few moments earlier, a little kid in front of us in line said to Lance, "I'm a magician too! Look at this!" And the kid did a single backpalm card production. Lance went totally nuts like it was the greatest thing he'd ever seen. Anyways, I'm sure you guys have seen the same kind of thing with Lance. He's just the best. |

Lance mentioned something a few weeks back on a streetofcards.tv about doing some catfish fishing. He's 50, like me, and has been doing this a long time.
My guess is he'll take some time off, then start touring. |

Lance is one of the "good guys"...
Every year, during the World Magic Seminar, in addition to sponsoring the competitions for the kids, he hosts about 50-plus teens to a huge Pizza Party at his house, and folks like Johnny Thompson, Mac King, Siegfried, Criss Angle, Fielding West, Jeff McBride, Eugene Burgre, and others all come and SESSION WITH THE KIDS ALL AFTERNOON.

Seems a no-brainer for him to relocate to another Vegas venue if doesn't decide to tour or retire.

Lance is leaving the Monte Carlo after they asked him to make some budget cuts. He said he wouldnt do that so he left - under his own terms. I'm sure he will land somewhere else on the strip. However, this is all very indicative of the Vegas market right no? Dirk Arthur gone, Steve Wyrick gone, Casanova closing before he even opened, and now Lance.
Official announcement Monday. |

I was one of those 50 teens at his house and I really hope that his show doesn't close. He has been my inspiration for as long as I can remember and I really hope he can continue for at least a few more years...

Lance is one of the classiest guys in magic. I have known him for years. I first met him with his first mentor, Harry Collins. He never forgot where he came from or what it was like to be starting.
Will Lance tour? Who knows. He has worked very, very hard for a lot of years. Unlike many sports celebrities, I think he has watched his money carefully and how much is enough. What is the point of killing yourself just to make some more money when you have enough. Lance will be in the envious position of being able to work when he wants to. He has earned to time to go fishing many times over. Richard

I was about to post that I recently read that he had signed a contract taking him through 2015. Then I googled it and found this. Apparently they are ending it 5 years early. This sucks! |

The following was posted on tricks.com. Wonder what he will have to pay to get out of the contract? But I completely understand if he is taking the high road and choosing to leave on his own terms instead of agree to the budget cuts for the show. I agree with what other have said about Lance being one of the good guys. He has never missed a show, and has even performed when ill. On the few days a year he does get off, he perform volunteer shows for things like Crusade for Children and fundraiser shows.
Cris >>>Tricks has heard from multiple sources that Las Vegas legend Lance Burton is closing his Monte Carlo show. Memorial Day, according to sources, will be his last day in the casino that gave him the deal which is still used a measuring stick for magic performers to this day. Lance signed a new six year deal at the Monte Carlo in June of last year. Tricks has also learned that Burton is looking to keep the show running, but where will he land?<<< |

Wonder if he'll look at Branson? It's closer to home and would make sense.

I'm sure he will stay in Vegas. That is home for him for many years and all.
He will have no problem getting a new place... He's one of the Greats of our time. Branson would be a real downer for him and anyone for that matter... Branson is pretty slow at this point. I'm sure Vegas is also slower than normal, but Vegas is better than Branson even in bad times only if your working.. The numbers are still larger than Branson.... It's even hard for me to live in Branson and enjoy it after living in Vegas for many years...But Vegas is a bad place to be if your not living your dream, that's why I moved..... (But I truely love Vegas) I wish Lance the best on what ever he does. Taylor

Well if his show is really closing that's a bummer but I guess that's pretty good for him.

I wouldn't think that Lance is the one to loose by leaving. I'm sure they are having to pay him to break the new contract early. By all accounts, Vegas is a done deal. People are in no position to continue to fork out $75 to $100 per seat anymore period. The larger casino/ theatre complexes know this and will probably split the theater into two showrooms. He got out alive with all his earnings, that counts.

Lance stays through Labor Day. The Casino wanted him to fire his help and hire cheaper folks and he told 'em NO WAY.

Now they're all out of work .. does that make sense?
Who knows .. that could very well be the situation. Hopefully they will be able to move the show and keep everyone involved employed. I'm sure Lance has got money in the bank .. but, the dancers and the crew will be the ones most affected. Just another sign of the times .. Steve |
