When I was there this last Christmas, I was told that his magic shop at the casino would be closing to make room for another bar. Maybe that was the writing on the wall. But if it was, it didn't make much sense. The show I went to was completely sold out and everyone had a fantastic time. The fact is, the Lance Burton show sells out night after night. This is a risk-free winner for anyone who only has enough time/money to see one really good show. With a proven success like this, Lance shouldn't have any trouble finding a new home.

We can't loose another icon on the Strip!

Lance - you have to find another home.

Let the magic continue!

I first saw Lance perform when I was 4 or 5, at my church. He was still in high school (which also happened to be down the street from our church. Now I wish I hadn't been shy and hid from him in the church kitchen.

Unfortunately it has nothing to with Lance being a good guy or a great magician. If management feels the show is too expensive then the show goes. It all comes down to the dollar.

Yes that's business, after selling out his show night after night for years and years and years... They repay him like this. They will probably demolish that beautiful theatre to put in an expresso Café or bar if they think they will make them 10$ more a week. Sharks...

Steve, they would have been out of work anyway. I think Lance has something up his sleeve for the future and Im sure he's worked out severace pay for all of them.

Maybe he needs to move to Fla and one of the disney parks. Wouldnt that be something. Orlando is up and coming in magic and having Lance would be a major thing.

I just saw him a few weeks back in Vegas. Both Lance and his assistant Eta-Lyn are FANTASTIC people, and he's a real treat to talk to. I feel fortunate I've been able to meet with him on a few occasions.

On Lance's site it says .... On Oct 12 for the first time ever there will be a show after the Lance show... The guys name is Frank Caliendo (impressionist)
He performs five days a week... I also looked at his site.. He signed a 10yr deal with Monte Carlo. Then I heard that they turned Lance's gift shop into a bar a while back...
Six months of sharing the stage with another show when it's Lance's Theater..
Looks like the Monte Carlo has been up to no good...

Yeah, the shop was closed last time I was there, though nothing else was in the space yet. I've contacted his assistant and told her they need to find a new home quickly, so I'm sure they're on the ball now. You're welcome, everybody.

I like Frank Caliendo (he's the guy who does John Madden). A long time ago, Frank was doing open mic nights in Milwaukee. I got to do a few sets with him.

Lance is in a position to do what ever he wants. If he wants to find a deal, he'll find one. If he wants to retire, he'll retire. He had an awesome run, congrats to him!

Yes its sad that the Lance is moving on. However, we cant be bad-mouthing the Monte-Carlo. For years they have co-produced Lance's show. They absorbed a lot of the cost and enabled him to do such a long run in the first place. This is almost unheard of in Vegas, especially when Lance first started at Monte Carlo. MGM (MC owners) really do support magic well with DC and Lance both being on the same owned properties and practically right across the street from each other. Yes its also sad that his workers will get laid off too, but there are getting 4 months notice. In this economy it could be much worse. Lets not be angry about this, but lets celebrate the fact that Lance has done amazing stuff on the strip and has been a great role model for us all! Cheers Lance!

When I went to Vegas with my wife, I saw two magic shows. P&T by myself, since she HATES Penn. We went to Lance's show together. She suffers the same fate as many part-time magicians' wives, but she really likes Lance Burton. If he tours, she'll probably know about tickets before me. If in some strange twist of fate he would tour with Trans-Siberian Orchestra, I would never see her again.

I'm feeling quite sad that Lance is ending his run prematurely. Vegas must be hurting real bad.

Yeah. The whole things reeks of a fishy smell if you ask me.

But I agree that Lance can write his own ticket wherever he decides to go. What Monte Carlo doesn't want, someone else will be GLAD to take off of their hands. Lance wins, Monte Carlo loses. Personally, I think they are shooting themselves in the foot. But, stupid is as as stupid does.

And Lance's refusal to fire everyone and go cheaper demonstrates his true class and his priority to not compromise on quality, because we all know you get what you pay for. Cheaper labor usually always comes out in inferior results. The show/performance would go downhill and Lance is simply not going to have it.

I wish we all could have that attitude.

I don't think we'll be without him for good. I emailed his assistant last night and he response included the following:
"Lance's closing here at the Monte Carlo is just the end of one journey. We look forward to the new adventure that is ahead for us."

FYI. In Lance's original contract there was a clause that the company (Monte Carlo owner) could not put another magician in a show on their property without Lance's permission.

The MGM, Luxor, and the Monte Carlo are all owned by the same company. Obviously, the previous clause does not exist.

Lance has earned a retirement, if he wants. Remember Channing Pollack was one of his mentors and he walked away from it all when he could. Lance may decide enough is enough.

Ironically I just watched Lance's act on world magic awards a while ago and thought " that's a magician who truly respects his paying audience"
Like others before me have said he has rightfully earned retirement.
Long live Lance's fame and lets hope to see more of him soon
